How to Tap into the Energy Advantage at Work

Few of us think about how energy can be a work day advantage ...but it is the competitive edge we all hold, if we choose to deploy it.
Every bit of productivity you generate, every creative burst, all your brilliant ideas, and the hard work you put out day after day, require energy. Are you taking care of the engine that drives your mission?
All summer long, I'm bringing you short hits of information and inspiration to help you ignite high performance in all you do that is important to you!
This week I share ... in 60 seconds or less... a reminder about the importance of energy in all its forms, for driving everyday excellence

Here are a few practical things that you can do within your organization to make sure that you're tapping into the energy advantage.
1) How about using your lunch breaks to go get some exercise? We don't always do that, but research says that exercise during the workday rather than after has a higher chance of happening, and your post-workout productivity will be higher and more focused!
2) Make sure that you mandate your breaks. Take your colleagues along. We've only got about 90 minutes of peak time before our brain will tell us it needs a break. The brain is a massively energy hungry organ. Give it some movement, give it some fuel, give it some time away from your screen every 50 to 90 minutes.
3) That means when you take your break, do it without your device...at least for part of the time.
4) And make sure that you set boundaries around your workday - reasonable start and finish times, flexibility for family emergencies, and regular breaks - so that at the end of the day, you can go home and more refreshed and energized.
That's the energy advantage at work, and the benefits will spill into your life.
