A Story in making

A short story of Manju who hails from a village in Almora District in Uttarakhand got a chance to do something more meaningful in life that she long thrived for and decided to work hand-on-hand with her husband, who was shifting to Delhi for his job, to have a better living. She got a chance and inducted at the power electronics division of Eastman on the assembly lines. That was 2 years back ever since then she never looked back. With one of her friends she came to know about Eastman factories and learnt about how women employees in the factories work alongside men in the production lines at Power electronics division in assembling the inverters. She got selected and begins her journey in the factory as a trainee on the assembly line. A quick learner and her swift working pattern helped her to excel in the mounting work where she had to put components of very small size on a PCU board. Fast and accuracy was the key here. Having thin fingers and smaller height helped her perhaps to do this job with precision. With hands on training combined with her dedication at work she now works in Mounting and Visual screening of electrical components that goes into Inverters. Her precision at work is immaculate and now she imparts training to other women who, like her, breaks all barrier to join the factory work.

In two years she has become inspiration to many other women from her village and two of her friends has come to Delhi with a hope and a dream that Manju is living already. She feels extremely happy and her inner confidence reflects when one speaks to her about women in factories. When she was asked about her feelings about the factory life, the smile on her face says it all. Not only her, this is the story for many others at Eastman factories. Not only at the factories but at various levels in the corporate office as well where women are placed in many crucial roles. Women at Eastman are becoming the power-force behind the year-on-year phenomenal growth and progress that the company achieves globally.
