The Human Face of Business
When you set up a page with your profile at any of the large social networks, whether it's LinkedIn, Facebook, or Powerful Intentions, you have to present yourself as a human being, not a corporate entity. Let people know who you are, and what you are about.
If you‘re honest, you will naturally attract people that you have things in common with… and that provides the fertile soil where you can start to plant the seeds to promote your product or service. Once you have a common bond it is easy to get into a conversation, and from that conversation may come an opportunity to make a sale.
I know from my own experience as a prospective buyer just how important making a personal connection can be. Let me tell you about it…
I was reading posts at a homeowners‘ forum and was very impressed by what one person, a roofing specialist, had to say. From what she wrote about herself personally, it sounded like we had a lot in common, so I decided to make contact with her and see if I could add her to my personal/professional network.
I clicked over to her homepage hoping to learn more about her. The only thing I found was a long…I mean REALLY long…homepage that did nothing but promote her company. It didn‘t tell me one thing about her. Frankly, even if I had been interested in getting a new roof, I can guarantee I wouldn't have gotten it from her. I prefer to do business with a warm-blooded person, not a cold- blooded corporate entity.
Statistics show that most people are like me.
That‘s what makes social networking pages so amazing and so valuable to your business. People can find out all about who you are.
Most people that go online looking to buy from a business already know what company or what type of company they are looking for. What they are looking for is a company that feels like the right―person to do business with. If you don't tell them who you are, they won't know if you are just the person they have been looking for.
