"الأطفال أحلام مستيقظة لا يجوز إطفاؤها.""Children are waking dreams that must never be extinguished." — Arab proverb
Childhood is a sanctuary, a fleeting season where everything should resonate with innocence, joy, and hope. Yet, for millions of children worldwide, this precious phase is stolen by suffering, deprivation, and injustice. World Children's Day, celebrated on 20th November, is not just a symbolic date; it is a call to action, a collective promise to defend the rights of children everywhere, no matter who they are or where they are.
As a committed humanitarian, I witness the countless challenges faced by children: orphans seeking a home, uprooted children fleeing wars and malnutrition, and tiny hands working instead of holding crayons. Through this contribution, I aim not only to pay tribute to them but also to invite a profound and universal reflection on our role in protecting and preserving childhood at every level.
Childhood, a Reflection of Humanity: A Plea for Universal Protection
Childhood reflects the purest, most fragile, yet most promising aspects of humanity. In the laughter and dreams of children, we rediscover our own hopes for a better world. Yet, when a child suffers, humanity itself is fractured. We must reflect on our collective responsibility: every injustice inflicted upon a child represents a societal failure, but every act of kindness is a shared victory. Protecting children transcends borders and cultures because their suffering is universal and demands a universal response.
"Mtoto ni mzizi wa maisha." "A child is the root of life." — Swahili proverb
Millions of children are deprived of their right to fully experience childhood. Whether displaced by war, forced into labour, or left unnoticed in their suffering, these children form an invisible population. This article is a call to action to break the silence and extend a hand to those most in need.
"Τα παιδιά είναι τα φτερά του μέλλοντος." "Children are the wings of the future." — Greek saying
Daily news reminds us of children’s vulnerability to global crises—climatic, political, economic, or social. As chaos seems to escalate, children remain the most fragile, often overlooked in the priorities of major decisions. Yet, they are the future, and their protection is an investment in a better world.
"کودکان، باغبانان آیندهاند." "Children are the gardeners of the future." — Persian saying
This day is not just an opportunity for awareness, but a chance to act. The keywords here are “kindness” and “action” because children cannot afford to wait. It is a reminder that we must all become active protectors of their right to a dignified life, and dignity begins with education.
"Children are sacred guests of the world, entrusted to our wisdom and love." — Native American saying
Education is more than a right; it is a vital tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and building a future. However, millions of children worldwide still lack access to quality education due to poverty, inadequate infrastructure, armed conflict, gender discrimination, and natural disasters. Moreover, children are the first victims of climate change: floods, droughts, violent storms, and famines threaten their health, safety, and future. Yet, they are also key agents of change. Across the globe, young people are rising to defend their planet and urge adults to take action.
In Conclusion
Protecting childhood is preserving humanity. On this World Children's Day, let us resonate with compassion and action for those too young to defend themselves. Every gesture counts, every comforting word eases pain, and every collective effort can transform lives. I have had the privilege of witnessing lives transformed by genuine, collective actions. Compassion is a powerful weapon, capable of altering the destiny of a child. It doesn’t require vast resources, just sincere attention and simple acts of kindness.
To everyone who believes in a better world: let us commit to never turning away. Every saved child’s smile is a victory for all of us. As Native Americans wisely say: "All that we do to our children today, they will do to society tomorrow."
"子供たちは未来の種である." "Children are the seeds of the future." — Japanese proverb

Hello! 🤗 I am Sofiane, a Translator and Interpreter specialising in translations from French and English into Arabic, with expertise in Spanish, Turkish, Russian, and Ottoman Turkish. Passionate about Humans, I am interested in everything that touches their History, cultures, beliefs, and languages, particularly Semitic, Iberian, Slavic, and Turkic languages; not forgetting liturgical languages, which are another of my strengths. My commitment to cultural and linguistic diversity, communication in its aspects of Inter-culturality, Multi-culturality, and Trans-culturality is a reflection of this passion and vocation, crystallising in the principle of "Trans-lation" in my vocation as a Translator and Interpreter of human achievement.
In parallel, I am an active and committed Humanitarian, dedicating my time and energy to my Association, the "Cité des Anges d'Alger", dedicated to assisting and protecting children and mothers, of which I am the President and Founder: www.citedesanges.org
In a world that values sharp expertise, I am also an Expert in Foreign Trade Operations & International Relations by day; a Volunteer Translator/Interpreter by evening; and a committed Humanitarian during the rest of my time and on weekends. My activities form a mosaic of interests: gardening, DIY, martial arts, chess, crafts (pottery, ceramics, mosaics, Moorish wood decoration, repoussé and chasing copperwork), Andalusian-Arab music, and a constant appetite for learning through Coursera, challenging myself every day with new skills and knowledge. These passions enrich my understanding of cultural nuances and humanity — so essential; they are my Ikigai! 😉
My versatility is not merely a collection of skills, but a symphony where every talent resonates with the others. As a Polyglot, Multipotentialite, and Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), I perceive the world as an interconnected canvas, where each new experience deepens my global understanding. This heightened sensitivity allows me to grasp the most subtle nuances in intercultural exchanges, transforming my diverse interests into a unique strength. I am not merely the sum of my skills but their living synergy — every language I speak, every art I practise, every culture I explore interweaves to create a singular perspective that gives meaning to my mission as a bridge between worlds.
