Are industry awards worth it?

When you’re working in the Financial Services space, there are more business awards to enter than you can shake a stick at and there’s no doubt that winning one can massively boost your reputation and help grow your business.

Unfortunately, though, some are a sham. Like many businesses at ARR Talent Limited , we have received the "offer" of awards in exchange for quite a large fee for the privilege of being given the award and not necessarily winning the award.

In an ideal world, awards will reward the very best in an industry, not any old Joe who wants to hold a trophy. In fact, some awards are invented by scammers. Scammers who are set on making a career out of preying on small business owners.

How do you know if an industry award is credible or as dodgy as a Ponzi scheme?

There is an art to writing an award entry in a way that makes you and your entry stand out. Having been on the Money Marketing judging panel for a number of years you can see that some individuals or companies get their message across in a succinct and accurate way, and address all of the points in the brief really well. Unfortunately, not all entries do that so well.
