Influence Travels Time
One of the things my late Mom loved the most was her Irish heritage. Though she was born in the U.S. her parents both immigrated from Ireland. They left home as teenagers traveling alone to a new country, far away from everyone and everything they knew. Upon arriving in the U.S. they worked hard and found a way to earn enough to live on. They married, raised a family during the Great Depression and World War II and shared a strong faith in God. Through it all they managed to impart in their children a love for America and a love for, "the old country" as well.
Fast forward several decades to today. My daughter, who could have gone almost anywhere on vacation, chose to go to Ireland. In fact, the photo above is one that she took today on her way to visit the Cliffs of Moher. (For movie buffs, this is the location used to film the Cliffs of Insanity scene in "The Princess Bride"). My daughter's interest in the old country was sparked by conversations she had with my Mom.
I wonder if Mom and her Parents knew they would inspire coming generations with their words, and actions? Some of us don't see ourselves this way but if we have influence over others we truly are leaders. Let's choose to be good leaders so our influence can help folks in the present and also travel far into the future to bless generations to come.
An Irish Blessing: "May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past."
