Hello from Insurance Post,

Like Hollywood film studios putting a smile on moviegoers faces everywhere by releasing both Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same day, Insurance Post gave you two big reasons to be cheerful in July.

In a month when hands were anxiously wringed as the industry prepared for the Financial Conduct Authority's Consumer Duty deadline looming ominously on the horizon, the 29th British Insurance Awards served as an excellent reminder of the power and purpose of this industry while our Best Insurance Employers list highlighted what a superb sector this is to work in.

Starry night

Aviva's Jane Poole and Adam Winslow pick up the General Insurer of the year tophy.

A spotlight was shone on stand out performances in the industry at this year’s British Insurance Awards. Aviva was among the big winners with group CEO Amanda Blanc taking home the Achievement Award. The insurer also won the Customer Care, ESG: Sustainability Initiative of the Year and overall General Insurer of the Year prizes, giving it a trio of trophies at the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall. It was a busy month for Aviva, as the insurer also bought Barclays home insurance portfolio just ahead of the FCA’s Consumer Duty deadline on 31 July.

Where to work

Over 4,000+ insurance employees had ther say on who the best SME and large employers are.

Our Best Insurance Employers 2023 List was also a must read for those wanting to know what it takes to attract and retain top talent as well as people considering their next career move. Konsileo and Aioi Nissay Dowa Europe were named as the greatest SME and large places to work, respectively. It was a first win for AND-E in the Best Insurance Employer (Large) category, while Konsileo scored a hat-trick after having previously won the Best Insurance Employer (SME) category in 2022 and 2020.

What to watch

Thanks to all those who donned their glad rags, laughed along with our host comedian Russell Kane and danced with pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor at the 29th British Insurance Awards at the Royal Albert Hall at the start of July.

For those who have serious FOMO – and those who enjoyed it so much they may struggle to remember every second of the glittering jewel in the industry’s crown – you can now watch a highlight video featuring the worthy British Insurance Awards winners.
