Insurance Post’s recap of October
Hello from Insurance Post,
A change of captain at Admiral plus what it takes to become one of the biggest providers in the UK caught the attention of Post subscribers in October.
Make it big
October began with Alistair Hargreaves, currently deputy CEO of UK insurance, stepping up to replace Cristina Nestares at the helm of the provider's UK insurance business. Hargreaves's captainship came as Kevin Spencer, CEO of Markerstudy, shared his plan to challenge Admiral when it comes to scale. If his plan succeeds, expect Spencer’s efforts to shake-up future Insurance Post Top 100 UK Insurers lists.
This year’s list, compiled by AM Best using provider’s non-life gross written premium in 2023, showed personal lines providers whose motor insurance premiums failed to keep pace with claims inflation slipping down the rankings.
What to listen to
Ahead of chancellor Rachel Reeves first spooktacular Halloween Budget, Natalie Larnder of Keoghs, Matthew Connell at the Chartered Insurance Institute, and Shayne Halfpenny-Ray from the British Insurance Brokers’ Association popped into the Insurance Post Podcast studios to discuss the impact Labour’s first Budget in 14 years could have on the insurance industry.

Make sure you listen to the podcast before Halloween so that you don’t have the living daylights scared out of you by the Labour Party’s plan to plug the multi-billion pound black hole in the public finances.
