Investing in the Invaluable

Investing in the Invaluable

Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.

You’ve probably seen this quote several times, or maybe variations of it, as I have. But this time, as I scrolled through my feed, sprinkled with inspirational quotes and world news, it instantly captured my attention.

With so much going on in this world, it reminds people that travel is invaluable, and it’s one of the most important things that’s worth investing in.

It’s the most unique thing you’ll carry with you

Whether it’s hopping on a train and exploring a foreign country with the family, enjoying an evening in a new city, or ziplining through a remote rainforest, these experiences are one-of-a-kind, can never be taken away from you and will only become more valuable as time passes. How many things have you bought that you can say that about?

It takes you back in time

It’s one thing to read history books, it’s another to walk in the footsteps of the past. Historical sites are some of my favorite places to visit because 1. I think it’s important keep stories alive and 2. There is something remarkable about standing in a place where you can say ‘I’m where [insert amazing historic event] happened.’ It’s a feeling that never gets old and one I get when I tour the 18th Century Great Houses of Jamaica or walk the streets of London where history was made.

It shapes your perspective on life

How do other people live? That question can only be answered by stepping out of your world and into another. As a parent, there is no greater gift I can give my children than knowledge and understanding. Exposing yourself to different cultures and ways of life only expands your mind. More importantly, it takes you out of your comfort zone and helps you take a deeper look at yourself and what you are contributing to the world you live in. That’s the most valuable lesson of travel.

The Gist

I believe in travel; not just as a traveler, but also as an entrepreneur. Island Routes Caribbean Adventures, for example, is a venture that I continue to invest in, expanding our presence throughout the Caribbean and, now, Mexico. It’s because the travel experience is the one thing we can provide people that gives them back so much in return. So don’t be afraid to try something new, step back in time or get a new perspective on things. I can promise you, you’ll be all the richer for it.

So true. You are the sum of your experiences. Therefore you limit yourself by not stepping out of your usual physical and social space to see , touch, feel, smell and hear what others have to share, whether 1 or 100,000 miles away.
