In this edition of our newsletter, we invite you to follow along as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the African Development Bank, share valuable insights on each of our 54 regional member countries through the Country Focus Reports, tell inspiring stories of investing in #Angola’s youth, and pave the way for cleaner cooking solutions across the continent.
#AfDBat60: The Bank Turns 60 Years Old!
The African Development Bank is celebrating 60 years of #MakingADifference in Africa! It all started in Khartoum, Sudan, in September 1964, when representatives of 25 African countries agreed on the vision of a Bank that could drive economic development across Africa by mobilising additional capital.
Since then, the Bank has played a defining role in shaping and advancing the sustainable economic transformation of 54 African countries.
We want you to be part of the celebrations. Click here to watch some goodwill messages to mark #AfDBDiamondJubilee, then share yours using the hashtag #AfDBat60.
Cooking Up a Brighter, Cleaner Future in Africa
Imagine a world where cooking doesn't come with a side of health hazards. That's the future the African Development Bank is working towards with its $2 billion investment in #CleanCooking solutions across Africa.
In Nairobi's Mukuru settlement, residents like Aurelia Aureh are already feeling the difference. Thanks to innovative companies like M-Gas, families are swapping smoky charcoal for clean, affordable gas. It's not just easier on the wallet – it's an actual breath of fresh air.
From pay-as-you-cook models to smart meter technology, these solutions are revolutionising how Africa cooks.

2024 Country Focus Reports: Pragmatic Policies for Economic Growth
This year’s reports are out! The 2024 Country Focus Reports provide an overview of the short, medium, and long-term policy insights from the Bank on each of its 54 regional member countries.
Click here for timely evidence and analysis on the continent’s growth, as well as valuable recommendations on how African countries can better leverage private sector finance, attract climate financing, advance the reform of multilateral development banks, tackle debt burdens, and finance structural transformation.
Stimulating Innovation for Angolan Youth
Angola has the second fastest rate of population growth in Africa, with young people making up half of its 35 million inhabitants. At a time when the country is increasingly developing into one of Africa’s leading logistics hubs, it is important to ensure that youth and women are not left behind by the process of economic transformation.
To support youth employment and entrepreneurship, the African Development Bank has committed to training more than 95,000 young people in digital technology and in Technical and Vocational Education and Training for climate-smart agriculture and transport, through a $79.08 million loan to the Republic of Angola.
