It’s Time to Celebrate Yourself

It’s Time to Celebrate Yourself

In 2018, the American rapper, Snoop Dogg, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and he gave a remarkable speech. He said: "I want to thank me. I want to thank me for believing in me. I want to thank me for doing all this hard work. I want to thank me for having no days off. I want to thank me for never quitting. I want to thank me for always being a giver…” He deserved his star.

Snoop was right. Anyone who consistently puts in the work to birth an idea or dream deserves recognition and celebration. Everyone knows that accomplishing a dream is a tough road, full of obstacles and challenges, and few people succeed. So, if anyone goes through the grind and comes out the other side successfully, they ought to be appreciated.

The idea of celebrating yourself may sound strange, probably because, you are used to silently working hard and see no need to step back and appreciate what you do. Consequently, your position leaves feeling unappreciated because you expect others to see your hard work, but they rarely do. Well, I’ve noticed that in the appreciation game, you have to take the lead. Appreciate yourself first, and others will align with your perspective. So, what should you celebrate about yourself?

Celebrate Your Commitment: You caught an idea, and you have shown up for it daily for the past five, ten, fifteen, or twenty years – this is commitment, and it is huge. Celebrate it. Few people can pull this off, and you did it. Please understand that it is something. Like Snoop, thank yourself for your commitment to your dream. You deserve recognition and appreciation from yourself.

Celebrate Your Hard Work: You not only showed up all these years, but you put in the work. You went through the motions to learn, understand and master your craft. Blood, sweat, and tears went into becoming the great professional that you are now. You did the work, now thank yourself. You paid your dues; you should be proud of yourself. Do pat yourself on the back.

Celebrate Your Grit: Your journey so far has been anything but smooth. It has been a rollercoaster in every way, but you made it here. You were determined to overcome every obstacle and challenge, and you did it. You fought hard for your dream and would not give up. Please say thank you to yourself; celebrate who you have become. You deserve it.
