JOURNEY TO JOY: A YEAR OF GRATITUDE AND MENTAL HEALTH GROWTH

JOURNEY TO JOY: A YEAR OF GRATITUDE AND MENTAL HEALTH GROWTH

This is the time of year when our mind requires us to slow down from the roller coaster of life and make ourselves our priority. What brings us happiness, peace, and joy? With all the never-ending chaotic life challenges, we must consider what is true joy and true joy comes with positivity. December is not just a wintry month, it is also a combination of laziness, tiredness, happiness and other emotions altogether.

In our busy lives, we get so involved and lose sight of our mental health, and what goes on inside ourselves. Prioritising self-nourishment and mental peace is not just a necessity; it’s the key to maintaining a sane balance in your life.

In this blog, we’ll discuss how to improve our lives for a better and happier mindset. So, without any delay, let's get started.

One thing should always be crystal clear:

The world is chaotic enough, be kind to yourself.

Living in a generation where everything goes at lightning speed, we may dedicate time to our physical well-being, but the care for our inner self is frequently overlooked. Our goal for this coming year should be to balance our daily routine with self-care hours to ensure our internal well-being. In all the hustle and bustle, it is essential to specify time for activities that nurture our mental growth.

Every year teaches us something valuable. If last year's challenges have made you stronger and more resilient, consider it as an achievement that will accompany you into the next year. The experiences we encounter serve as stepping stones for personal growth and a strong foundation for upcoming years' strength and resilience.

Power of Gratitude

Practising daily gratitude is a powerful tool for promoting healthy mental growth. This simple yet profoundly impactful activity can be a transformative force, having the potential to bring joy into our chaotic lives. Making it a constant habit to reflect on the positive aspects of life, no matter how big or small, can have a potent effect. Acknowledging every act of kindness, life achievement, blessings, interactions, strangers' smiles, and anything positive can shift your perspective and contribute to living a joyful life. The essence lies in cultivating a genuine attitude of thankfulness and gratefulness.

Those who are happy and joyous often share one common trait: Gratitude. Gratitude holds significance for personal growth as it nurtures awareness of the present moments and helps us discover the silver lining in any circumstance, no matter how challenging. Therefore, the power of gratitude lies in the enhancement of self-awareness, leading to a better and healthy psychological, emotional, and spiritual life with positive mental growth.

At this time of year, I challenge all readers to reflect on the sources of joy, mental peace and growth. To ensure a healthy coming year, consider practising gratitude daily.

Here are a few strategies to practise gratitude:

  1. Make a habit of doing gratitude journals to jot down any 3 things you are grateful for each day. It could be as simple as a meal, the comfort of your clothes or any other positive aspect of your day.
  2. Notice the beauty in everything, pleasant weather, flowers, beautiful sunset, or a clouded sky.
  3. Consume positive content, such as videos, podcasts, TED talks, or books about happiness, self-love, and gratitude.
  4. Learn from your experiences to find the silver lining. Embrace every opportunity presented to you, and believe that you can overcome challenges.
  5. Avoid comparing your life and falling into a comparison trap. Consider yourself the sun, and others the moon or stars- each destined to shine at their own time.
  6. Start your day with a positive reminder, telling yourself you are doing well or that you are enough.
  7. Meditation acts as a powerful catalyst to cope with this fast-paced and chaotic nature of life. It helps reduce stress, improves concentration, helps emotional balance, enhances self-awareness, encourages mind-body connection, improves sleep quality, and cultivates compassion. Making it your daily routine can yield wonderful results for mental growth.
  8. Reframe the negative thoughts and shift them into positive ones.
  9. Appreciate and encourage kindness acts.
  10. Practising self-compassion by acknowledging and connecting with yourself. Accept your emotions and transform them for a positive change.

Ensure that if this past year has been about emotional security, the next goal should be to strengthen your mind and promote overall mental health. These practices act as a powerful way to foster contentment, gratitude,  and a healthy connection with your true self.

Gratitude not only contributes to mental well-being but also encourages interactions with loved ones. It generates a positive loop of kindness and empathy. Focusing on the good aspects of someone allows us to overlook any negatives.

Make sure to let others know how you feel about them through verbal affirmations, thoughtful gestures, quality time, and celebration of small wins. When someone experiences gratitude from others, it makes them smile, and we never know the power of our words and actions or how they could brighten up somebody’s day.

We don’t know what the other person is going through, so a shift in mindset and actions can encourage better communication and a positive outlook on life. Every person involved with you has the right to feel valued, appreciated, and loved, contributing to a loop of compassion and generosity that makes the world a better place for everyone.

Wrapping up

Always make sure that your journey must take a transformative shift from stress and chaos to gratitude and positive mental health that helps foster growth. By embracing positivity, incorporating gratitude practices, and seeking support whenever needed are secrets to cultivating a joyful life. Take the metaphorical magic wand in your hand and let its magic permeate everywhere in your life. It doesn't have to be grand, it only has to bring contentment and, ultimately, joy.

As you embark into the new year, keep in mind that it is always the small, consistent steps that lead to significant change. Therefore, we must appreciate the moment while we are living it, and let go of the negativity that is toxic for our mental well-being. Every day is a blessing that must be celebrated.

So here’s to a year of gratitude, growth, happy and healthy you!
