Deals

  • Raspberry Pi IPO'd on the London stock market with a valuation of £541.6m – way ahead of expectations. Listen to episode 10 for our interview with Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton .
  • Octopus Ventures and redalpine have co-led a $13 million seed funding round in Cambridge biotech ExpressionEdits . The company’s proprietary intronization technology revolutionises gene design by mimicking the natural genetic landscape.
  • DeepTech venture builder, Cambridge Future Tech , has closed its latest round, raising $5m. Since its launch in 2022, CFT has co-created 10 DeepTech ventures across the UK with several more currently in the build phase. Check out episode 75 for our interview with Cambridge Future Tech CEO, Owen Thompson .
  • Texas Medical Center , in partnership with Innovate UK , has announced that Heartfelt Technologies Ltd is one of 16 companies to be joining the second cohort of the Innovate UK & TMC Innovation accelerator program. The programme is designed to help innovative companies grow and scale their US strategy and market plan, and you can tune in to episode 62 to find out more about Heartfelt Technologies' expansion plans.
  • Fuse Diagnostics completed an oversubscribed seed round – raising a total of £1.6 million from a syndicate of angel investors alongside Innovate UK.
  • Cambridge battery materials pioneer Echion Technologies is on the road to global expansion after raising £29 million in a Series B round. The company develops niobium-based, fast-charging battery materials.
  • Cambridge Cognition raises £2.6m in funding. Cambridge Cognition specialises in CNS clinical trial solutions, a growing area of investment for the pharma industry.
  • Wave Photonics has received £4.5m in funding to continue its development of on-chip photonics designs.
  • DeepForm , a University of Cambridge spin-out, recently secured £2 million in seed funding. DeepForm help automobile manufacturers to cut waste by over 75%.
  • HutanBio announced they have raised an additional £3m. Listen to our interview with CEO  Paul Beastall in episode 81. They are working on a new biofuel for heavy transport.

  • According to new research from BusinessFinanced.co.uk, Cambridge is the best place in the UK for AI startups. The rankings are based on a detailed evaluation of AI-related job vacancies, the number of AI-related businesses, online search volume for AI-related terms, and the 5-year business survival rate. Bristol comes in second and Reading third in the rankings. Besides Cambridge, other East of England locations don’t fare badly with Milton Keynes (12th) and Chelmsford (13th), also making the top 20.
