Lahore – Crackdown on Unlicensed Bikers after 2 Days

Lahore traffic police have announced that motorcyclists have only two days left to obtain or renew their driving and learning licenses. If you don’t know, the Punjab government is providing relief to motorcyclists, and they can instantly get a driver’s license issued without needing to wait for a learner’s permit.

Before this relief, riders had to issue a learner permit first and wait 42 days before they could get a driving license. Under this relief, this 42-day waiting period was removed, and riders can instantly take a test and get their driving license on the spot after clearing the test.

This relief aimed to save valuable time for citizens and to make them comply with traffic laws by minimizing the effort required to obtain a driving license. To further ease the process, the government also eliminated cash handling at centers; citizens need to bring their CNIC.

According to Additional IG Mirza Farhan Baig, the special relief package for motorcycle licenses has benefitted over 1.2 million citizens so far. Official statistics revealed that 460,940 citizens obtained learning licenses, 764,961 obtained regular permits, and over 185,000 licenses were renewed in this scheme.

30th November Last Date

Now, this scheme is going to end on the 30th of November, after which an intense crackdown will be launched against unlicensed riders. Now, we don’t know what the word “crackdown” means here; it can be a strict fine of Rs. 2,000, or it can mean that traffic police will seize your motorcycle if they burst you.

It seems like the government is on a mission to enforce safety laws on motorcycle riders. Before this relief, traffic police penalized about 9,956 riders for not wearing helmets. The initiative targeting riders without helmets is a key component of a larger effort to improve road safety, given that head injuries are a significant cause of fatalities in motorcycle accidents. Wearing helmets is universally acknowledged as an essential step in minimizing the risk of life-threatening injuries in traffic incidents.
