Travel Safe – Snow Emergency Declared in Murree

The winter is almost here and so does the snow fall season. Keeping this in view, the Murree administration has declared snow emergency across the district and its major routes. The snow fall season, from December to March 2025, has led authorities to establish 19 emergency check points in the hill station.

The media reports stated that one officer from each of the 22 institutions will be posted at these points around the clock. Furthermore, the Rawalpindi has dispatched additional 100 personnel from Civil Defense to Murree after the district’s administration.

Traffic Monitoring

The administration has planned to implement strict monitoring and traffic management systems to regulate the vehicles’ entry. Check posts at the important points like Islamabad Toll Plaza and GT Road Toll Plaza have been set to keep the number of cars entering in check.

Meanwhile, to counter the issue of icy roads, the administration has arranged large quantities of salt and distributed to the Murree Municipal Corporation and NHA. Also, the snow-cleaning vehicles, equipped with three drivers per vehicles for around the clock duty.

In another step to manage the traffic, the district administration has deployed extra 50 traffic wardens along with check posts at different important points in Murree including Jhiga Gali, Guldna, Sunny Bank, Kashmir Point, GPO Chowk and Barian.

Tips to Travel in Snow

Here are some tips to follow, if you are planning to travel to snowy areas like Murree:

  • Before leaving for any land of snow, buy tyre chains. You can find it easily in the market or our auto store.
  • This is the era of technology, and we can know about the weather days ahead through different apps and Google updates. So, always check the weather before leaving your house.
  • This is maybe the most important tip for you as most of us don’t follow it as water can freeze in extreme winter.  The coolant has anti-freezing agents and doesn’t freeze in severe cold. In short, replace water with coolant and drive with a healthy engine.
  • Always, let us repeat it, always, check the health of your battery before leaving on a trip in winter. Because a weak battery will cause serious problems for you because, in winters, cars mostly take more time to start, and in that case, a weak battery will drain out instantly.
  • Many of us plan such trips with the idea, Jaa K Dekh Lengy, Kahien Na Kahien Tow Mil he Jayga. Please don’t do it; always pre-book your hotel or room, especially during peak season.
  • You reach near a hill station, see a long line of cars and there are no signs of movement, and the weather is terrible, take a U-Turn and come back because it will be beneficial for you and your family.

All in all, have a safe journey and always follow the protocols.
