Leading Change: The WFMH’s New Section on Workplace Mental Health

The World Federation for Mental Health has taken an exciting step forward by launching a new section dedicated to Workplace Mental Health. This initiative aligns perfectly with the 2024 World Mental Health Day theme on October 10, 2024: “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health In the Workplace.”

I am delighted to have been appointed as Chair of this new section and to have the opportunity to support leaders and organisations keen to create positive change in this area.

Here’s a glimpse into the plans and initiatives we have in store:

Key Outcomes for the Section

  • Educational Leadership: We aim to educate and spread awareness about workplace mental health policies, ensuring everyone is informed and empowered.

  • Regional Summits: We will host regional summits for top executives, creating a platform to enhance mental health initiatives in workplaces across the globe.

  • Research Hub: Our focus will be on promoting and sharing cutting-edge research on psychological safety and workplace wellbeing, fostering a culture of care and support.

  • Collaborative Initiatives: By partnering with esteemed organisations like WHO and OECD, we strive to make a tangible difference in the lives of workers everywhere.

  • Training Opportunities: Through the World Congress on Mental Health, we will offer specialised training for employers, researchers, and clinicians tailored to meet their unique needs.

  • Scientific Contributions: We are committed to enriching the World Congress on Mental Health scientific program with our insights and expertise.

  • World Mental Health Day: We will advocate passionately for workplace mental health, acknowledging the diverse cultural and economic factors that impact the workforce.

The federation’s mission is clear and inspiring:

  • To advance mental health awareness
  • To prevent mental disorders
  • To advocate for mental health
  • To implement best practice recovery-focused interventions worldwide

We are determined to create healthier, more supportive workplaces for everyone. To that end, it would be great to see you at our first global seminar next week.

This event will be a unique opportunity to engage with thought leaders, gain insights into our initiatives, and contribute to shaping the future of workplace mental health.
