Leading with purpose with RMIT University

At the Institute for Futures, we transform daily routines into an experience of self-discovery and cohesion with the session "Leading with Purpose: Embracing the Power of Values," tailored for RMIT University University. We disconnect the team from their usual tasks to immerse them in an inspiring environment, where they discover their personal values and align them with those of their company. 

Through interactive and reflective activities, participants experienced a notable increase in confidence and a renewed positive outlook. This journey not only cultivated sustained motivation but also forged deeper connections and strengthened mutual understanding, leaving a mark of satisfaction and unity on each team member.

The session aimed to enable the team to discover their values, connect with RMIT's stated values, and understand the "reason why" of RMIT University. Additionally, the team collaborated to co-create a manifesto that aligns them as a cohesive unit.

The Anemometer activity provided a visual representation of participants' emotions and expectations at the beginning and end of the session. At the start, each participant wrote their name, selected an emotion or expectation from a predefined list, and assigned it a percentage representing their current intensity level. These were then displayed on a board or chart.

Throughout the session, participants engaged in various activities designed to foster reflection and discussion. At the end of the session, participants revisited the anemometer and placed another sticky note with the same information as at the beginning. This allowed for a comparison of initial and final emotional states, providing valuable insights into the collective mood and progress made during the session.

This session allowed us to reach the following conclusions:

Increased Confidence: From the beginning to the end of the session, confidence levels among participants increased significantly. This is evident from the shift in emotions from "Curious" and "Expectant" to "Confident."

Positive Outlook: The transition from emotions like "Intrigued" and "Curious" to "Optimistic" and "Satisfied" indicates a positive shift in participants' perspectives throughout the session.

Sustained Motivation: Despite changes in emotions, "Motivated" remained a constant theme both at the beginning and end of the session, suggesting sustained motivation among participants.

Sense of Satisfaction: Emotions such as "Satisfied" and "Warm Feelings" at the end indicate that participants left the session with a sense of satisfaction and positivity.

Overall, the Anemometer dynamic highlighted the positive impact of the session on increasing confidence, maintaining motivation, and fostering a sense of satisfaction among the team.

Before the session, participants individually completed the DISC assessment and received their results. During the session, these results were presented collectively as a team. This provided a comprehensive overview of the team's communication styles, strengths, and areas for development, fostering understanding and collaboration among team members.

In this dynamic session, participants formed groups of three or four to discover their personal values using the card game "The value of values".

This exercise served as a powerful tool for self-discovery and introspection, allowing participants to gain deeper insights into their core beliefs and motivations.

By sharing their chosen values with their team and explaining why they selected them, participants reinforced their understanding and fostered greater transparency and mutual understanding within the team.

This dynamic was essential for promoting self-awareness and building stronger connections among team members.
