Lessons learned from the table
I love entertaining – if you know me – I am the ultimate fluffer…
What does that mean?
It means I am not a great chef or cook (that is my hubby) but it means if you come to my house you will hopefully experience music, candles, flowers, ambiance, and good company but more importantly - hopefully a warm welcome and an escape…
I changed jobs recently and positions/titles.
It prompted me to think about my motivations.
I love working – and the industry I am in – but I had to ask myself – how much do I care about the title
I’m 52.
Yep, I said it – after a few years of trying not to show my age I am actually owning it.
I am not ashamed to be over 50 – at times I have felt embarrassed - and certainly had doors closed because perhaps I am less relevant or less edgy – or on trend – or whatever.
Ultimately it is about finding your place – at the right time.
What makes each one of us an individual is our unique skills and what we can “bring to the table”.
I have a great relationship with my parents (who are not necessarily modern-day career-oriented people) - but like many of us, the dinner table is the place where significant conversations take place.
What I ultimately learnt from them was to be true to myself and to be kind - they modelled authenticity and simple kindness and hospitality.
I didn’t realise it would become the model for me whether that would spell success or failure!
Like many in the travel industry, I have been absolutely blessed to experience the most incredible parts of our world that make us love the job we do.
So what is the point of this?
If you are reading this - maybe you are not at the peak of your career or perhaps you are feeling like the highlight of your career is over.
Not true.
It is not about your age or your wins. Or your title.
It is about a sense of purpose and belonging.

And that is all about people.
So how?
Lessons learned from the table
· Be the best version of yourself – don’t sell your soul
· Care about people around you – don’t be a flake
· Find your people – trust and be trusted
· Lean into your faith – we need something bigger than ourselves
You will fail – I mean corporately.
But you will also learn – A LOT.
And you will be better for it.
So enough said.
Full circle.
I hope if I encounter you - and you me - we will both be better for the exchange.
Not because we are important, have a great title, or a certain agenda.
