Let Your Light Shine - A Message for Sales Professionals

Let Your Light Shine - A Message for Sales Professionals

Remember the song, "This Little Light of Mine?" As kids, we'd sing it proudly, promising to let our light shine, no matter what.

Growing up in a small Tennessee town, my summers were filled with simple joys - fishing in the river, riding four-wheelers in the bottoms, and going to Vacation Bible School (VBS). VBS was a staple of our small-town life, and every kid there was encouraged to shine their light.

We'd sing with fingers in the air, shouting "No!" to anything that might dim our spark.

That little light represented our unique talents, personalities, and God-given gifts. Yet, as we grow up, many of us start hiding that light, tucking away what makes us unique to fit in or appear "professional."

Hiding Our Light

In the world of sales, I've watched so many talented people stifling their creativity and individuality. They bury their light under the pressure to conform to a professional mold, afraid their unique qualities might be seen as "too much."

Larry Levine calls this becoming "an empty suit" - or as I like to say... seeing that I sell robots... "a mindless, soulless sales robot going through the motions".

I understand this all too well.

I've been there myself.

I chased promotions, striving to be seen as smart and successful, thinking that reaching a certain level would finally allow me to throw my hat and Jordans on and be my true self.

But here's the truth: freedom to be yourself doesn't come from titles or achievements. It has to come from within, by embracing who you are.

Light Attracts - A Simple Truth

Not too long ago, this idea truly hit home. My family and I, along with some neighbors, gathered one evening around a firepit. We started with just a few people, but soon, more joined, drawn to the warmth and light.

It reminded me of a simple truth: light attracts.

It creates connection, warmth, and sometimes even hope. Our light is the hope our customers need, whether personally, or professionally.

Embrace Your Light, Inspire Others

Marianne Williamson captured this idea beautifully: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us."

Playing small doesn't serve anyone - not our teams, our clients, or ourselves. We are all meant to shine.

I believe in you.

I believe in your unique potential, talents, and purpose.

Your customers, heck...the world needs your light, not a watered-down version.

As sales professionals, we have an incredible opportunity to impact others - not by hiding who we are, but by embracing it fully.

Let It Shine

So, here's my message to you: It's time to uncover your light. Don't lock it away. Let it shine on a hill for everyone to see.

When you do, you'll find that you're not only transforming your life but inspiring others to do the same.

Let it shine, baby. Let it shine.

Embrace who you are. It may be Boots, Jordans, or Crocks, just shine that light real bright. Not a #robot
