As we wrap up 2023, here’s a review of the key 2023 Profit and Revenue tips to help you increase margin and the asset value of your hotels in 2024!
In our recent #AssetGrowthSummit by Open Revenue Consulting we celebrated in London we saw how hoteliers convert a lot less revenue to profit, flowing less to the bottom line when they are not able to control costs and manage resources effectively.
We invited HotStats to showcase the latest data on how Operational costs in UK are eating into the Profit margin of hotels reviewing YTD data 2023 reported on 2019. Zooming into In Room Costs Housekeeping Labour costs is by far the biggest cost growth with 65% increase YTD, followed by Cleaning supplies (36%), Purchase and rental cost of linen increased by 30%), Credit card commissions by 23%), Guest amenities (30%) and Other Rooms expenses (23%).
In Spain we are looking at a similar picture YTD with more than 134% increase in the cost of linen, 76% cleaning supplies, credit card commissions up 44% and housekeeping Labour costs up 25%.
How can hoteliers cope with these surges in costs and still be profitable ?
We talk to Radisson Hotel Group ’s Patrick Apostolo in charge of EMEA Performance to understand how Profitability can be increased when Revenue, Productivity and Resource management are aligned.

To further increase Profit, Tackling Food waste has never been more important both for our pocket and our Planet
Marriott International has taken the The PLEDGE on Food Waste to fight and reduce Food waste by 50%, an immense step for Hospitality to tackle the 3rd largest carbon emitter (if Food Waste were a country).
Another important proof point for hospitality tackling food waste this time in Spain, where we had the opportunity to talk to Francisco Javier Garcia Cuenca , the President of Instituto Tecnologico Hotelero and VP of Magic Costa Blanca , who managed to onboard the programme in April 2023 and achieved more than 37% reduction in food waste in the pilot property in Benidorm saving more than 80k EUR in food cost in less than 5 months, and reducing the carbon footprint of the property by more than 49,000 kg.
Asset management - Digital transformation of workload calculation optimises Productivity
The efficient management of workloads in the housekeeping department has become the epicentre of disruptive transformation. The progressive incorporation of regulations through regional agreements has sparked a revolution, with technology emerging as the key catalyst to comply with these regulations and elevate staff performance.
Recent data reveals that automating processes in the housekeeping department, such as allocating workload based on credits, can increase staff performance by 15%.
