A Letter from UXUS... April

A note from our Founder...

Welcome back to a Letter from UXUS – our monthly newsletter focused on making sense of the ever-changing landscape of design innovation and transformative customer experiences.

Last month, we celebrated the powerhouses of leadership with our spotlight on female trailblazers within our own team and beyond. This month we are diving headfirst into the soul of our craft and delving into the profound impact of design.

For over 15 years, we've been crafting experiences and environments that resonate deeply with audiences. Our ethos centers on creating brand experiences that not only elevate perception but also embody social consciousness, leaving a lasting imprint on the consumer psyche.

As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape, our focus shifts from the functional to the expressive, exploring the fluid interplay between physical and digital branding landscapes, recognising that now, more than ever, physical destinations serve as vital hubs for human connection.

In this edition take a closer look at the design details of our latest ‘viral’ sensation, McDonald's Jeju, and gain valuable insight from our Client Service Director, Alex Bell, on pushing clients to explore new creative territories.

Explore how we combat sustainability fatigue through the transformative power of design with Rachel Edmonds, Senior Strategist. And for those who journey with us till the end, I'll share personal reflections on how a recent trip to Barcelona illuminated the enduring power of design across centuries.

We hope you enjoy this edition of our newsletter, and we look forward to sharing more of our insights with you over the coming editions!

NEW on UXUS

Revolutionizing the fast-food experience through cutting-edge design: McDonald’s Jeju

The UXUS team partnered with McDonald’s to bring the Jeju store to life as a complete architectural expression, both interior and exterior. The design pays homage to the island's coastal beauty, merging elements of the rising moon and sea waves, from the rooftop terrace to the interior decor, each element seamlessly integrates cultural symbolism with architectural innovation.

La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Final thoughts: A postcard from George...

As spring rushed in, I rushed to Barcelona, and it was an absolute eye-opener into the timeless power of design.

A trip to Barcelona isn't complete without a visit to La Sagrada Familia – it was like stepping into a time machine, except instead of going back, you're propelled into the future.

Gaudi's masterpiece, designed almost a century ago, still feels remarkably ahead of its time in execution. His expressive and iconoclastic architectural style, once overlooked during the era of rational and functional design, now stands as a beacon of inspiration, captivating millions worldwide to witness the genius of his vision.

And Gaudi's influence runs deep; it's etched into the very fabric of Barcelona's identity, immortalising it into a global destination where the convergence of expressive human experiences and architectural marvels forms a rich tapestry of culture.

Guggenheim Museum, Bilboa

Comparatively, we can observe a similar phenomenon in Bilbao, where the Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank Gehry, serves as a landmark of architectural innovation. Just as the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Colosseum in Rome have become iconic symbols, these masterpieces of design sow the seeds of culture and transform destinations into vibrant hubs of activity.

These examples illustrate how design shapes not only physical landscapes but also the soul of a place. It's a reminder that design isn't just about aesthetics – it's about weaving stories that transcend time.

That’s the power of design – and it's everywhere, just go out and look!
