LinkedIn is a powerful platform for building professional connections, positioning your  brand, and generating leads. Use this checklist to apply these steps, so you can start 2025 with leads.

Steps to Fully Set Up a LinkedIn Profile for Lead Generation

A well-optimized LinkedIn profile can be a powerful tool for generating leads interested in that you and your business have to offer.

Here's a step-by-step guide to setting up your LinkedIn profile specifically for lead generation:

1. Your LinkedIn Profile.

a. Your Professional Profile Picture

  • Use a high-quality, clear image with a neutral or branded background.
  • Ensure your face takes up about 60% of the frame.
  • Test your face picture with www.photofeeler.com

b.Your Banner/Header Image

  • Design a custom banner that reflects your brand or expertise.
  • Include a ‘Added Value’ proposition, contact details, or a call to action.
  • Use the dimensions of 1584 X 396 Pixels
  • Use either canva.com, snappa.com or bannersnack.com

c. Your Headline

  • Write a compelling headline showcasing your expertise and how you solve problems.
  • Use the following template to get you started. (You’re allowed 220 characters incl spaces)
  • ‘I help X (Add your target audience) achieve Y (Add their most desired result) with my Z (Add your product, service, solution or process) – (Add Social Proof, CTA etc

 

2. Optimize for Search: (LinkedIn is also a search engine)

a. Use Keywords.

  • Use wordtracker.com to research the search volumes of your keywords.
  • Add keywords to your headline, About section, Experience section title, description and skills.
  • Include phrases your target audience might search for.

 

3. Your Profile About Section.

  • Write both your About & Experience sections using the W,I,I,F,T, (What’s in it for them) formula – lot’s of ‘You’ type conversation.
  • Start with a hook: a strong opening sentence that grabs attention.
  • Or
  • Just tell your audience exactly what you do.
  • Focus on your value proposition: What can you offer your audience?
  • Use 3 keywords relevant and specific to your niche.
  • End with a call-to-action (CTA)

b. Add Contact Details

  • Make it as easy as possible for prospect to get in touch with you.
  • Include your email, phone number, website etc.
  • Add your calendaring tool link (e.g., Calendly) for easy meeting scheduling.

 

4. Highlight Your Expertise

a. Experience Section

  • Highlight roles that demonstrate your expertise.
  • For each role: Describe the problems you solved and the results achieved. Use bullet points for clarity.

b. Skills Section

  • List your 3 keywords as part of your added skills in the lower area of both your About & Experience sections as well as in the Skills section of your profile.

c. Add Media or Video to Your Experience sections.

  • Add Case Studies as PPT saved as a PDF etc.
  • Add PPT’s, Videos, etc that add value without selling to your audience.
  • Add images of accomplished business milestones etc.

 

d. Recommendations & Social Proof

  • Add asking for recommendations from satisfied client’s part of your ongoing marketing strategy.
  • You can never have too much social proof but you can have too little!

5. Set Up a Lead Generation Funnel

a. Create a Lead Magnet

  • Offer a free resource (e.g., an eBook, guide, or webinar) in exchange for contact details.

b. Add a Featured Section

  • Use LinkedIn’s “Featured” section to display your lead magnet, case studies, or portfolio.
  • Add links to your landing page, website or Calendly link, Newsletter, etc. (2 links maximum)

c. Add a Call-to-Action

  • Include CTAs like "Message me to learn more!" towards the end of your About and Experience sections.

6. Grow Your Network - Connect with Target Audience

  • Identify and connect with your ideal clients or industry professionals.
  • Before you send a request to connect to a prospect, look at their profile for mutual areas of interest, don’t just click the ‘Connect’ button.
  • Personalize  ALL your 'Requests to Connect' with a short, personalised message.

b. Join Relevant Groups

  • Join LinkedIn groups where your target audience hangs out.
  • Share valuable insights that ‘Add Value without Selling’ to build credibility and to help position you as a respected authority within your industry.

 

7. Your Content:
