LinkedIn Chronicles: How to Make your LinkedIn Followers and Views Count

My client got his biggest gig with 500 followers and 223 views on average per post. I could remember our agreement when he hired me to manage his page. The goal was to build his followers, increase his views and boost his engagement.

I would be crazy to agree on bringing him leads in the first three months. I used to say it was impossible to generate leads with 0-1000 followers. You wouldn’t blame me. The LinkedIn algorithm favors accounts with a large following.

But I was wrong. The LinkedIn algorithm is not equal to opportunity. It is just a catalyst for it.

Do LinkedIn views matter?

Yes, it matters. But you can go viral and still get nothing to show for it. Perhaps, you will only get loads of connection requests from thousands of people who may not even fit into your target audience.

How do I get the best out of my 200 followers and 100 views?

A big question to answer. But I will simplify it for everyone’s benefit. I will give you some strategies to help you achieve your goals.

I shared this with many people in my Copywriting Academy. And a few of them have gotten leads and businesses in the first 2 to 3 weeks. Not a bad start for people with less than 2000 followers!

The truth is—150 views can get you the biggest gig of your life. Yes, I am not joking!

It is like talking to 150 people every day. Don’t tell me you can’t convince 1-2 people to buy your product. Imagine talking to 150 people every day about your business for a month. About ten people or more will be interested. One person will definitely buy.

It is almost the same way when you put out content. People see it. Some read till the end, while some zoom off after reading the headline. Don’t be sad! Everyone is not your audience. You can’t write for everybody. Continue penning down your thoughts.

How can you get the best from the ones that care about what you put out despite your small followers and low views?

5 steps to get the best out of your small followers and low views

Understand your niche and define your audience

I made this mistake in 2016. I was a jack of all trades. I published anything that comes to my mind. It is safe to say I wasn’t purposeful. I wanted to be like everyone.

Common! You shouldn’t make this same mistake.

Sit yourself down and ask yourself these questions:

  • What is your strength?
  • Who is your audience; age, location, occupation, etc?
  • How will they feel when they read your content?
  • What will they do after reading your content?

Listen, how people feel and act when they read your content is key to building a brand on LinkedIn.

Identify the ideal platform

Some LinkedIn users are in the wrong place at the moment. Each platform has its uniqueness. If you are into the fashion business, LinkedIn won’t give you that sales. But yes, you can build yourself as a thought leader in the fashion industry. You can leverage LinkedIn to sign deals with clothing companies. You know LinkedIn favors B2B. That is the magic power of LinkedIn.

You should leverage more of Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter to drive sales for your clothing business. This is just my own view. My analysis. My forecast.

LinkedIn is more of a corporate platform. Of course, I am not a corporate guy, but my niche is universal. I am a copywriter. I work with everybody. So it makes me flexible.

How can you figure out your ideal platform?

This is where finding people in your niche is important.

Find people in your niche

You will keep deceiving yourself if you think you can do it alone. You should have 4-5 people in your niche. They should do better than you on LinkedIn (I mean in terms of views, engagement, and brand).

It makes zero sense to learn from someone struggling to grow on LinkedIn. Here is the reason, learning from people in your niche gives you an idea to improve your content. They probably write what people in your niche want to read. So go find them now. Good luck!

Content is King!

Your LinkedIn content is the engine in your car. It drives you 1km or 1000000 km. People judge you based on your content. It is sad, right? Get used to it.

They say content is King! It is paramount to building your brand. Remember I said earlier, that the way people feel and act when they read your content determines what you get. Now go back and read your content; how do you feel, think about them?

Now you have figured out half of the problem with your LinkedIn account. You still have enough time left to fix it up.
