The LO Down - This place is noisy, why you should be trying to get people away from social media
Guys, I have to be honest, with all of the politics of this week, I didn't get on LinkedIn much. For all of the certainty that we have now that the election dust has settled, there are still questions about the future and what will happen. All I know is that the best way forward is to continue investing in yourself and in your own professional development. Make yourself an unstoppable force for the future that will be so skilled there will be no denying your value. Do that, and you will start living in a world of attraction.
***Reminder, The LO Down is evolving and will be leaving LinkedIn on December 1st. If you would like to continue following along a receiving high-value content, click the link below.***
High Five Friday / BAM!
These are my five favorite posts from mortgage folks this week.
First up, Eric Wiley gives some great advice as it relates to a loan officers relationship with rates. As someone who recruits in this industry, I get asked about rates a lot, and I think this perspective captures the spirit of where a LO's efforts can be focused right now to pay off in a big way in the future.
Second, Jared Evenson shares a great post about the mindset shift that helped make a difference for him in his career (not job). I am personally a big believer in this mindset as well. When you think of things in the long-term and the impact your short-term actions can have, you change the way you act. If you're not in this frame of mind, I suggest you read this post.
Third, Tim Davis writes a great post about what he calls "SoloPreneurs." What I like about this post is that it is written for a very specific audience. When you're creating content, it's important that you hone in on who you are trying to reach. Use this post as an example of how you define that audience. Once you've defined that, you can use it as your guide for all content in the future.
Fourth, Rich Swerbinsky lays out a pretty well thought out LinkedIn strategy that helps you stay away from doom scrolling and getting pulled into the feed without any productive use of the platform. If you are trying to leverage social media for your business, it is important to remember that you are a content producer and not a content consumer. Having a disciplined schedule and plan is essential.
And finally, Nathan Knottingham may have written the quintessential LinkedIn post here. He weaves a tapestry of a personal story about his son with what he loves to do in business and how the two worlds collided in one awesome moment. This is a great example of letting people know you, the human you, and how that makes you the business you. Great post.

Podcast of the week:
Commission Breath: If I Can Stop ONE Person From Making This Mistake, I’ll Be Happy
Summary: The podcast starts by the host saying that he was on the verge of burnout and he had to make the conscious choice to make edits to what he was spending his time on.
He talks about a new perspective that he has on social media and discusses the difference between long-form and short-form content and emphasizes that long-form content has the greater return on effort.
He suggests recording a video podcast to create evergreen content that you could share with borrowers in the future.
He also emphasizes building an email list over time and stay in touch with high-value content with occasional lead magnet content.

SOLO Tip of the Week:
Imagine you're going to see the orchestra and you get all dressed up, have a nice dinner beforehand, valet your car, find your seat and just as the musicians start to play, everyone on stage starts playing a different song at the same time.
It would sound terrible, right?
That is the world of social media. A noisy feed full of different people saying different things and it can be very difficult to stand out and have your song be heard.
The trick is in finding a way to get your prospect off of social media and into your private concert hall where only you are on stage.
This can be accomplished via lunch and learns, webinars, or newsletters to name a few, but they all require that you connect in a way that causes your audience to make the choice to leave the noisy orchestra and follow you.
So when you are creating content, ask yourself if you are just adding to the noise, or are you offering an opportunity to breakaway from the noise to hear a beautiful solo?
Dad Joke of the Week:
Walking home last night, I passed a slice of apple pie, an ice cream sundae, and a lemon cheesecake.
I thought to myself, "The streets are strangely desserted..."
