Local Waterloo Company Trounces Apple at iPad Customer Service.

A week ago Sunday my wife dropped her iPad. The screen spiderwebbed like the front windshield of a car in a head on collision. Did I mention that my wife loves her iPad? it keeps her connected with friends, relatives, online shopping, store specials, news, weather reports just to name a few. I told her not to worry I would call the local Apple Store in Conestoga Mall first thing Monday.
Monday morning I placed the call to the Apple Store's local number and was surprised to be connected to an Apple Support desk located somewhere in the States. I asked to speak with someone at the local store which is why I called their number. They tried to connect me. They couldn't. They asked me if they could help. I explained my situation. They asked for my serial number and proceeded to quote me a cost of $249 US dollars if there was no further damage to the unit other than the screen. I asked how long would it take to get it fixxed and they told me I would have to check with the store. I then asked if they could get someone at the Apple Store to call me with an ETA on the repair and the cost of the repair in Canadian dollars. Sure not a problem is what I was told. Would you believe I am still waiting for that return phone call?
At noon Monday I tried to phone the Apple Store directly. No answer and after 3 rings I was diverted to Apple Support. The same thing happened at 3pm when I was told I should just go to the Apple Store to have my questions answered. Now you tell me this? No way was I going to travel across the city and waste another hour of my time just to get a quote from some person at a bar, genius!
At this point I did a Google search; iPad Repair Waterloo and I came across a small ad for a company called SimplyFixIT. I called the number and got right through to someone that spoke right to me. After I explained my situation and that my wife was experiencing the first sysmptoms of chronic iPad withdrawal, he simply asked the model of my wife's iPad. Confirming he had the part in stock for repair he asked how soon could I get to their store in Waterloo Town Square which was just a 15 minute drive away. He explained that normally this would be a three hour fix and he did have a couple of other jobs on the bench but if I could hurry down he would see what he could do. Oh, the price was just $125 Canadian plus taxes. The manager explained that if I was to simply fill out a service ticket request on their website I'd get a coupon for 10% off.
After dropping off my wife's iPad I was told that he would call me either later than evening or early next morning for pickup. He understood my urgency be he was not going to rush the job or make any promises he wouldn't be able to keep. Later than night, while finishing my dinner at about 5:50pm I got a call telling me the iPad was ready for pickup and other than the screen there was no other damage. The price of $125 less 10% was good and if I could leave in the next few minutes, even though they normally close at 6pm; he would stay late so that my wife could be reunited with her iPad that evening.

I hustled and without getting a speeding ticket made it to the store just before closing. Feeling guilty about the 10% discount after receiving such great service, I purchased a new more protective case for my wife's iPad and an extra power cable since they seem to break so easily. Both were at ridiculously low prices. What had been a stressful day at the Gingerich residence had ended on a positive note.
Apple you had better pull up your socks or small businesses with fantastic customer service are going to eat your service revenue lunch on you for breakfast! SimplyFixIT delivers a much better Quality service at a far lower Price. I would encourage anyone in Waterloo or in Guelph where they have a second location to give them a try. They repair all brands of smartphones, tablets and notebooks. And guess what? You can call ahead to ask any questions or book an appointment and you actually get to speak with a live person at the store. Unbelievable!
