LSP® raises your creativity to level 3
Finding solutions when we are facing complex problems or when we are urged to innovate requires that we make the most of our creative ability. Alone or in a team, we are facing the same challenge: how can we generate the most powerful and innovative ideas to overcome the unknown?
Based on our (or the team’s) expertise, given that the solution is in our brain(s) (otherwise we wouldn’t produce anything), how can we dig into it to extract the unexpected? How can we take ourselves to the highest level?
Ground floor: Reflecting
Reflecting is pretty much like blindly plunging the hand in a black lottery bag and drawing one idea after the other, at random. In a meeting, gathering several routine ideas and a few hazardous suggestions will pretend to be creative but our linear thinking has been known for long not to be the best strategy to come up with a great solution. Reasoning rather builds on cause-and-effect relationships that rarely make us go out of the box.
Level 1: Brainstorming
Brainstorming has been used for sixty years to put a team in the best conditions to innovate. Provided that the team follows the well-known rules: defer judgment, quantity over quality, wild ideas, etc… and the use of visual (therefore lateral) thinking brings our ability to create to a higher level.
Level 2: Design Thinking
Finding new solutions, facing complex challenges requires that the problem is scrutinized and reframed at first. Like in Design Thinking where we always start with a research phase. Neurosciences have confirmed that our brain answers with great ideas provided that we’ve dug into the problem deep enough. After having spent enough time on the question, we let our brain ideate and we trust him to generate surprising and delightful outcomes. Whatever the Design Thinking approach and the different phases or steps, alternating divergent and convergent thinking, raise our creativity to level 2.
Level 3: Lego Serious Play®-ing
After linear (1D) and visual (2D) thinking, there is another dimension where LEGO Serious Play® takes us. Printing our ideas in 3D by trusting our hands. LEGO Serious Play® relies on our hands to construct our thoughts.
You’ll be surprised when you tell what your hands just built in front of you when you describe what each brick means, why did you (your hands) pick such shape or such color and by the truth that the whole story tells.
Like in Design Thinking, participants are stimulated by being asked a challenge or a question (pretty much like the famous « how might we… » in Design Thinking) to which they respond by letting the hands build the answer. Our hands reveal our inexpressible and unfathomable knowledge and raise our creativity to level 3.
