YouTube Launches @handles for Channels, Providing Another Way to Promote Your YouTube Presence

YouTube’s moving more into line with other social networks with the addition of @handles for channels, which will make it easier to drive traffic to your profile, and promote your channel in the app.

Your handle will also function as a unique channel URL, providing another branding opportunity. Up till now, custom channel URLs have only been available to creators with 100 subscriptions, but now, YouTube’s making the option available to all users in the app.

YouTube says that it’ll be letting channels know when they can update their URL over the next few weeks.

Facebook’s Developing a New Option to Invite a Co-Author for Your Reels Clips

Facebook continues to build out the functionality of Facebook Reels, this time via a new collaborative Reels option, which would provide a way for users to invite another user to co-author a Reels clip.

But it seems that it soon will, and with over 50% of user time on Facebook now spent on video content, and Reels consumption rising fast, it could be a good consideration to help maximize exposure through influencer and brand partnerships.

It’s still early, with no official word on the experiment as yet – which, it’s worth noting, has not been released for public testing.

Instagram’s Working On New ‘Achievement’ Badges to Incentivize Reels Creators

As you can see in these images, there may soon be a new ‘Achievements’ element in your Reels options, which would display certain badges based on your Reel’s performance. Like ‘Trendsetter’ (cool) and ‘Creative Streak’ (rock on).

Achievements, as per the above example, would only be visible to you, with the idea seemingly being that this could function as an incentive element to keep users posting more Reels more often. Because evidently, Instagram is convinced that users want more Reels, as many as possible, in all elements of the app.

They could also, potentially, be tied into its Reels Play Bonus program, which sees actual money allocated to creators based on their Reels performance. Maybe, through achievement badges, Instagram could better identify top creators, and invite them to the program, which could keep even more of them posting, in the hopes of being paid.

Google Outlines New Personalized Ad Targeting Options for Display and Video 360 Campaigns

As digital platforms work to find new, privacy-safe solutions for ad targeting, in line with rising consumer expectations, Google has developed a new process for Display and Video 360 campaigns which will facilitate personalized ad targeting on selected websites, where consumers have given explicit permission for both the advertising brand and the host site to reach them.

Google has developed a new process that it’s calling Publisher Advertiser Identity Reconciliation, or ‘PAIR’ for short. With PAIR, advertisers will be able to reach users that have given them their contact info, on sites that they’ve also visited and provided permissions to.

As you can see in this overview, the process also uses ‘Clean Rooms’, which help manage the data upload and encryption process. Google, Facebook and Amazon have all used Clean Room processes for years to ensure that no user-level data is directly shared between parties, while the aggregated data is only ever usable by the associated business/platform. Now it’s being added to Display and Video 360 campaigns as well.

Essentially, you’ll be able to show your ads to people who’ve got an existing relationship with you and the ad hosting site - which is actually likely to be a lot of people, considering the amount of users who visit some of the top publisher pages.

Twitter’s Testing a New Option to Restrict Who Can Mention You in the App

Twitter’s developing yet another audience control option for your tweets, with a new toggle that would enable you to either stop people from mentioning your @handle completely, or limit mentions to only those who you follow in the app.

Presumably, if you choose to stop others from mentioning you entirely via this new toggle, that would follow similar logic - you wouldn’t be able to stop people using your @handle in their tweets, but it would no longer be an active mention, as such.

Twitter hasn’t made any official announcement on the test, which is not public as yet, though one Twitter developer did confirm that it’s being investigated (before deleting the tweet).
