Methods to Magnetic Recruiting - hiring made easier, forever
I remember long ago, I was hiring for a startup where I was the 2nd employee and in the early days we had no name or reputation. We had no culture or brand identity. We lacked so much, that I was thankful we at least had an office with desks, so when we hired, we had somewhere to put people.
Our business had a lot of potential and we had a huge need to hire - and when we decided to put a recruiting strategy in place, we wanted to do things that would make scaling easier. Our CEO asked us to hire the best that would bring in the best results and create innovation, and by doing so, we brought in those that brought in other fantastic talent.
We created an org chart of who needed to be hired, and we implemented a method of recruiting that would bring in the results we needed as a startup - Magnetic Recruiting. A method that brings in brand ambassador-esque results.
Magnetic Method 1: Hiring those that will attract others, because they are a "celebrity" in the industry.
This may be quite pricier than what we had in mind, yet could bring in a lot of ROI depending on the person we hired. Someone that is a celebrity because they are kick ass in turn around, driving in revenue and has made a reputation for doing so, others will follow them and work for them and want to be working in the same company. That is the type of celebrity we decided to hire. Someone that is well known, respected and kick ass in thier jobs in the industry.

Magnetic Method 2: Hiring those that will drive in talent from thier own network.
In this 2nd method, it's easier to hire those that fit this mold and much easier to manage and scale. First, you can use your entire team and build out referral programs easily. In many companies, especially blue collar and healthcare, a good percentage of hires come from such referrals of friends and family. Make sure the individuals on your team are aware that you are hiring and there are bonuses, rewards, vacation, public recognition, or other perks when such hires are made. The key is to create a system that is appealing and attainable for your employees, ensuring they feel valued and motivated to participate.
When you hire with the goal of one hire bringing in others, you start building a culture around hiring and creating a magnetic brand. This approach fosters a successful hiring strategy that benefits your company for years to come.
It’s important to create a supportive environment that encourages your employees to leverage their networks. Regularly communicate the value of these referrals to your team, emphasizing how they are contributing to the company’s growth. Some may even consider implementing training sessions to help employees understand the most effective ways to refer potential hires, and share success stories to inspire participation. Fostering this strategy cultivates a growth-focused culture with a core value rooted in collaborative hiring.
