Millennials represent the start of a new era - of the internet age. They know their needs, responsibilities and capabilities; and are unafraid to put in the work towards achieving all that they desire. They are fresh minds, with even fresher perspectives regarding professional lives, and thus, for organizations to manage them is accordingly is a must. They can be managed efficiently if the following factors are taken into due consideration:
- ‘All work and no play’ is a sure shot way to induce great stress in the millennials- this is not a good sign for organisations, and they need to understand that long hours spent in front of the screen working, is now a thing of the past.
- Millennials prefer to focus at work with a balanced mindset, where they can work, while also take short breaks to relax, and to refresh their minds and bodies- if this is understood, it can be great progress in efficiently managing them.
- Another aspect of this balance is also the flexibility amongst choices offered- millennials prefer to be able to choose when to work, and from where to work- they would rather work when and where they are comfortable, rather than feel pressured to work for the sake of it.
2. Training and Feedback:
- For millennials, money is important, but opportunities to learn from their work, and to grow with the help of this learning is equally important- for their successful management, these opportunities must be actively provided.
- Organisations should ensure that the senior members and leadership focus more on providing mentorship, growth opportunities and constructive criticism and feedback to the millennials for their further development.
- Along with Training and Feedback that helps with their professional development, recognition also plays an important part in successful management of millennials, as their efforts being acknowledged is always a great motivation
- A sense of belonging, of identifying with beliefs and functioning of an organisation are factors imperative to generate interest in the millennials towards any workplace- and to ensure they are accurately managed and well-settled in the company.
- They are fresh blood, and have fundamentally different priorities and hopes from their workplace- their focus is primarily on whether their views for their future align with that of the company culture
- Millennials can work wonders with the assistance of technology, as they have grown up experiencing all that the digital age has to offer, and all that they can achieve with it, so encouraging them to use this medium even at work adds to the productivity and the technological development of the company
