Mastering Your Job Search: 3 Key Aspects to Approach Your Target Audience on LinkedIn

Last few years has provided us with a plethora of lessons to learn from. The events that unfolded during these year have left an indelible mark on our collective consciousness, owing to the various challenges we faced.

Tragically, some individuals experienced the loss of their jobs, families, or health, with the latter two being irreparable. However, in terms of our professional lives, we can certainly bounce back.

It is essential to focus on three critical aspects in the remaining days of this month:

WHOM TO APPROACH,

WHEN TO APPROACH,

and HOW TO APPROACH.

WHOM TO APPROACH

There is no point in sending random job applications or greeting messages to people. This futile exercise will only lead to frustration. Instead, it would be wise to identify the handful of individuals or organizations interested in hiring you as your target audience.

To achieve this, you should make a list of target organizations, determine who is hiring among them, and create a list of target stakeholders within these organizations. This exercise will help you identify precisely whom to approach.

WHEN TO APPROACH

The next critical aspect is when to approach these individuals or organizations categorized as your target audience.

Keep a keen eye on their activities by following their LinkedIn pages and tracking their career websites. You should initiate interaction when they are interested in interacting, as it has to be mutual. LinkedIn is a Give and Take platform, and you need to maintain a balance.

HOW TO APPROACH

Now that you know whom to approach and when to approach them, the actual action time has arrived. The next crucial aspect is how to approach them.

Ensure that you do not start the conversation with generic greetings like "Hi" or "How are you?" Instead, be specific and sell yourself directly. For example, you could approach someone with the role titled "X" and mention why you believe you possess all the requisite skillsets for the same. In the end, ask for an email ID to share your resume if the individual finds you suitable for the role.

By following this approach, you will significantly alter your perspective of the LinkedIn network. You will be able to leverage the platform to make powerful career progressions. As a contributor to this platform, I hope that my shared secrets will help you plan your next job, as they have assisted many of my clients in grabbing the right opportunity at the right time.
