May - Learning Machines: Insights on AI from FT Strategies
Hello and welcome to Learning Machines, our monthly review of AI news that is relevant, actionable and interesting for the media industry.
This month, we’re ‘entering the chat’ by pivoting our focus to one of the FT’s latest Gen AI developments, the AskFT research tool. The tool has created a new way to engage with users, allowing them to ask questions and receive answers with a summary and citations to the FT’s article archive. The tool was piloted to a cohort of B2B users, and is also being used internally to help journalists more efficiently search our own archives when developing stories. Check out our conversation about the askFT tool with the FT’s Chief Product Officer, Lindsey Jayne, down below.
Additionally, I recently completed an interview with Ryan D.R. Cook, the founder and publishing coordinator at Rossum Press. We discussed AI language translation applied to book publishing, exploring what this could mean in terms of tool usage and broader industry implications.
Thanks for reading,
Sam
