Meet Guy [Interviews Series #2]
It’s funny to call someone a friend, while you never met him… In case you wonder, you should know that while you read this interview with Guy, he and I haven’t met yet in person. Our sole communication is here in LinkedIn and in phone calls, and yet I’m proud to call him my friend!
Guy Rahamim, was born in Jerusalem, and just recently moved to central Israel. He is truly a man of action, and he combine his time between volunteering to Magan David Adom (Israeli 911 Services), traveling abroad during working in the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs, and all of that with a big passion to life itself and ongoing learning.
This interview with Guy, is one of the funniest and coolest thing you will read today, so let's start with the top 10 question!
Q: What do you do and why?
Today I'm a Customer Success Manager in a start-up company in TLV. I choose the role because I have a great passion for providing quality service, and I take great pleasure in dealing with a variety of customers around the world, and every day I get to learn something new about different business cultures and customs.
The reason I choose a start-up is the constantly changing environment and it's a necessity to learn new things every day in order to stay in the game.
"I love my job because it allows me creative thinking out side of the box"
Q: If you had an opportunity to sit down for coffee with a famous character, who will it be?
I would have loved to sit down for coffee (or even better, a cup of tea in this case) with the great Winston Churchill.
I remember as a teenager, in my history class, when we were taught about WWII always thinking how great he was. His ability to face reality right in the eye and take action fascinated me.
His talent for great speeches was amazing, as you can learn from his first speech as prime minister: “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.”
Q: If you had a super-power what will it be, and why?
That's a remarkable question, because the superpower world and it's heroes and villains can teach us a lot about human nature.
I would choose Magneto. The character is powerful and has the ability to generate and control magnetic fields.
He is a Holocaust survivor whose extreme methods and cynical philosophy derive from his determination to protect mutants from suffering a similar fate at the hands of a world that fears and persecutes mutants. I think it can teach us that mutants can be easily every minority in the real life.
"we should protect the ones
who need protection."
Q: If you had unlimited money to start your business, what will it be?
As a dog lover and a people-person, I think it would surely be something that involves service dogs for people who really needs them.
There is a huge demand for them and not enough trainers and places to train them, I really believe it can create a huge improvement in the quality of the lives of people who need it.
Q: What’s your hobby? Why did you choose that?
One of my favorite things to do is reading, and the #1 author in my eyes is the great Haruki Murakami. I love to read because you can basically do it everywhere and it can teach you so much about history, culture and human nature.
Reading stimulates your imagination, and help you to better express your thoughts. But, I also like to party whenever I can :-)
Q: Each one of us has at least 2-3 core values that he/she won’t compromise them. What are yours?
- Always show respect to others, and only then you can ask to be treated the same
- Don't judge someone, until you are in "his shoes"
- Be kind to others, for no reason
Q: What’s the phone app you use the most (besides LinkedIn…)
Twitter - I love it makes you express what's on your mind in just a few words.
It really changes the way I look at news, and you actually feel like you can read what the person you are following after has to say without any filters.
"My motto in life is;
It's nice to be important but more important to be nice."
Q: What was your childhood dream? What did you want to be when growing up?
Wow, my real childhood dream was to be an N.B.A player, it didn't go as planned...
I think that afterward, I didn't have any specific desire for a title or a dream job, but more about what I want to do in my job. I knew I want to work with people and help them to solve their problems so that's basically what I'm doing now :-)
Q: Where would you like to travel?
I used to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and I got to travel a lot!
I will always be happy to explore Africa and Asia more.
The Common Question: What is your definition of success?
I really love the saying of Winston Churchill; "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm", and for me it's a great definition of success.
Life can bring you down from time to time, you have to find the strength to keep on going.
So, we got to the end of this interview, and it sure was lovely and inspiring! I want to thank to my dear close friend Guy who was inspiring along this interview, and I'm sure that if you read it so far, you have at least 10 reason to meet @Guy Rahamim on LinkedIn!
