What is Mercado Pago?
Mercado Pago is an online payment platform in Latin America, developed by MercadoLibre, the largest e-commerce and online auction platform in the region. Mercado Pago facilitates online and offline payments, allowing users to make transactions through various channels, including e-commerce websites, mobile apps, and physical point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Mercado Pago has been a pioneer in adopting QR code technology for payments, making it easier for customers to pay using their smartphones. Launched in 2015, this feature is especially popular in Argentina and other Latin American countries.

How Mercado Pago is transforming e-commerce in Argentina
With 8 out of 10 adults in Argentina actively participating in online shopping, Mercado Pago's user-friendly platform provides a seamless and secure payment experience, which is crucial in a market where 69% of e-commerce transactions are conducted via mobile devices. This convenience drives higher engagement and boosts consumer confidence in online shopping.
Mercado Pago’s impact is particularly significant due to its widespread adoption of digital wallets, which account for 23% of e-commerce payment volumes in Argentina. This makes digital wallets the second most popular payment method after domestic-only credit cards.
Mercado Pago also supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing tools such as business loans and detailed analytics. These resources help SMEs enhance their online presence and manage their finances more effectively, thus contributing to the overall growth of the e-commerce sector.

Fintech License in Mexico and Brazil:As an Electronic Payment Funds Institution (IFPE) under Mexico's FinTech Law, Mercado Pago offers a comprehensive suite of financial products, including remittance deposits, debit cards, investments, cryptocurrency savings, insurance, and rapidly growing personal loans.
