Mercedes-Benz Trials Safety Cloud Digital Alerting

Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, Inc. launched an Emergency Vehicle Alert Beta feature to their drivers in the United States, powered by HAAS Alert's Safety Cloud®. Emergency vehicles, road work, and other hazards communicating with Safety Cloud send real-time signals to the Mercedes-Benz Car-to-X cloud platform, which then delivers notifications and alerts to connected Mercedes-Benz vehicles via the integrated navigation map and vehicle instrument cluster .

StrategiaNow’s Roger C. Lanctot described this move by Mercedes-Benz as “getting car-to-customer communications right” in a recent LinkedIn article.

USDOT Includes Cloud-Based Solutions in V2X Deployment Plan

In August, the U.S. Department of Transportation unveiled their “Saving Lives with Connectivity: A Plan to Accelerate V2X Deployment" document, which has generated significant excitement in the automotive V2X technology community.

The most noteworthy development in this plan is the recognition of "networked V2X" (i.e., V2X via the cloud) as a viable approach to delivering V2X safety use cases. For decades, “V2X” was synonymous with direct communication between vehicles (V2V) and vehicles to infrastructure (V2I), without an intermediary network managing the wireless communication.  With this USDOT publication, we will see a revolutionary shift in vehicle safety applications leveraging the cellular network connectivity already embedded in vehicles on the road today.

Surprise! Your Vehicle is Protected by Safety Cloud!

Vehicle manufacturers are always trying to create “WOW” experiences for their drivers. Beautiful interiors, personalized surround sound systems, and sleek designs are the typical head turners. Did you also know that safety can deliver a “surprise & delight” experience too?

This #Jeep owner took their “WOW” moment to Reddit after getting an EMERGENCY VEHICLE APPROACHING alert from their vehicle for the first time.

These moments happen tens of thousands of times a day for drivers in vehicles connected to Safety Cloud. The digital alerting system is specifically designed to deliver advance warnings to drivers, giving them enough time to make safer, smarter driving decisions.

California Ushers in New Era of Autonomous Vehicle Regulations

On September 27th, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill No. 1777 into law, requiring manufacturers of automated vehicles (AVs) that operate without a human operator physically present to comply with certain requirements, like maintaining a dedicated emergency response telephone line for officials and equipping each AV with a two-way voice communication device. The law will also mandates emergency response officials to issue geofencing messages to AV manufacturers. These manufacturers must then direct their fleets to vacate or avoid the designated area within two minutes of receiving the message.

Earlier this year, HAAS Alert launched its Responder-to-Autonomous Vehicle (R2AV™) product to ensure compliance with these new regulations. R2AV enables automated vehicle manufacturers to incorporate real-time emergency vehicle and incident data into their remote operations and vehicle driving systems, ultimately allowing AVs to navigate and share the road more intelligently and safely with first responders. R2AV benefits from HAAS Alert’s Responder-to-Vehicle (R2V®) product, used by public safety agencies to connect their emergency vehicles to Safety Cloud for real-time digital alerting, improved situational awareness, reduced response times, and mutual aid with neighboring fire, police, and ambulance services.
