Mindset Check with Ede and Eddie Oberoi
Hey, creator. Today is Motivation Monday. And we are here Eddie Oberoi from the Eddie Oberoi Team.
Ede: Hi, Eddie.
Well, my name is Eddie Oberoi. I am a real estate broker here in the Bay Area. I've been in the industry since 1999. I'm here to answer Ede's questions.
Ede: Thanks, Eddie.
Okay, so I've known you and worked with you for about three years now. And you do something very different. That's very rare. And I want to share that with everyone. So, can you tell us about your routine and when you started doing it and how it changed your life?
Eddie: Basically, long story short, I mean, I've been in the industry, like I said, about 23 years when the financial burst happened, I lost everything. That was only about what, twelve years ago, 2008, nine. It was a struggle for a lot of people. And I was drinking, I was depressed, and I didn't know what to do. And I ran into this book, The Miracle Morning, and it talked about getting up in the morning and doing the routine. So, I just snapped out of my shit hole that I was in. And I started practicing The Miracle Morning. And in the beginning first few months, I would do it twice a week or three times a week. I would say I'll do it Monday, Wednesday, Friday, so I can sleep in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But I realized the days I didn't do it, I felt like shit. And then there came a point like, hey, you know what? I'm just going to do it every single day. And it started about almost ten years ago where I just started getting up in the morning and started working out at five workouts, meditation, visualization, affirmations, get it done by 6:00 a.m. And I'm usually at the office by 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. There was a point I was getting about 3:45 a.m. in the morning. But I have changed that now I get about 4:30 a.m. in the morning just trying to get some more sleep. But 4:30 a.m. in the morning, I'm up every single day. First thing I do is as soon as I get up, I brush my teeth and I write down my affirmations, my goals. And then I log into our 5:00 a.m. Zoom call, which is what we do is a bunch of us, about 15 to 30 of us all over the US and Canada, a lot of my good friends, we get together, and we do our affirmations together. We work out together. We listen to a good book together. We meditate, we visualize, we do a lot. And you show up and it's a very jampacked session for 60 minutes. And once you walk away from that, it's a miracle. You feel a lot better. Just like today. This morning, I did not want to get up. I have some allergy issues and allergies are killing me recently. But when, you know the people are waiting for you, you have the accountability it just works. And then you just watch. If you get up early in the morning and if you are at the office by whatever, 6:30 a.m. 7:30a.m., I mean, you do that for a year, change your life.
Ede: No, I agree. And it's changed mine, too, from the person I was when I wasn't doing it and to the person that I am now that I am doing it is a very big difference. What do you think the importance is of having that motivation or having that routine to accomplish anything that you want?
Eddie: Well, motivation isnt shit. Motivation is nothing. You can watch this video, you can listen to Anthony Robbins, you get motivated and then what? It all comes down to your daily routine and your habits. I love using the example of fitness. Right. If you want to get healthy, all you must do is eat. Right. lean meat, veggies, no, junk food, treadmills, 30 minutes a day, weight training, 30 minutes a day. And you do it for a year, you're going to be in good shape. You know what I mean? It's about the habits. It's about developing habits. And there are going to be days you don't want to do it, but you still do it. Same thing with work, the miracle morning. Ever since I started doing it, I haven't skipped once because this is something I must do. There are days when I sleep for two, three, 4 hours. I still get up and do it. So, it's crucial to have routines in place, because if you look at all the top performers, Michael Jordans of the world or Michael Phelps or even Elon Musk or whatever, right, they have a routine, they get up and they do certain things. An average person out there, they don't have a routine. They just get up when they must get up and they wait for the weekends and then they hate Mondays. My motto is, thank God it's Monday. I love Mondays. So, yeah, I think having a routine in place and then sticking to it, no matter how you feel is the way to go, especially when you are an independent contractor. You don't have a boss. When you work at Walmart or when you work at Apple or whatever, they will give you a schedule.
Ede: And you mentioned that you have the 5:00 a.m. Crew. You said they're all over the world. How did you find these people?
Eddie: Yeah, I am a little fanatic when it comes to going to the seminars, meeting good people, meeting like minded people. Because if you look at the world, majority of the people are complaining about the politics, about Russia, complaining about the war, complaining about Trump or Obama or food or too much sauce in their Taco sauce or too much milk in their coffee, complaining. And that's the real world, right? Majority of people do that. But then there is a small percentage of people who are positive. No matter who are always looking at the silver lining. And I want to be associated with those kinds of people because I used to be the other guy. I used to be all into politics. I used to have my opinion. I used to be judgmental. I used to be superstitious. I used to be all of those. Right. But once I realized that most successful people don't give a shit, you know what I mean? They're laughing all the way to the bank and they're healthy. So, I want to be associated with those people. And that's why I seek out that's awesome.

Ede: You know when we're doing the miracle morning routine today, you have the book playing in the background with Grant Cardone be obsessed.
Eddie: I met him. Yes. That's the stuff. I'll go out of my way and meet Grand Cardone, or I meet the Wolf of Wall Street or Mike Ferry and all these guys who I look up to. So, yeah, I do that quite a bit. Okay.
Ede: And you also mentioned one last thing, how important it is as an independent contractor, because you are your own boss doing having this routine and motivation. It's not just about motivation, but can you talk about action and taking action
Eddie: Yeah. So, what happens is when you have a routine in place, like, let's say I got up this morning, 430, I did my Affirmations 05:00 A.m., I did the Zoom call, 6:00 a.m., I talked to Michael Young, one of my good friends. We role played, talked about real estate. I got ready and here I am talking to you. And after you must talk to Rebecca, my communication coach. After that, I have an office meeting at eight. After that, I have another office meeting at 830. After that, I must meet one of my partners getting a home on the market. The reason why I'm sharing this with you is if you just put it on your calendar, you need to have accountability. Right? Once you have an accountability, then you have no choice. So, what I do is with Affirmations, with my morning routine, with my team meetings, I just put it out there, hey, we are going to do this, and I want you here and I want to do accountability. So, once you have the accountability, then you have no choice but to show up. Because human beings, if you tell yourself, hey, I want to get up in the morning and I'm going to work out. I'm the Laziest guy. I would never get up. But if I know I have 20 people waiting for me now, it's an accountability or even somebody, even one person waiting for me. I did that for years. I had a personal trainer. I knew these guys are waiting for me at the gym. You're just not going to skip. So, developing accountability around your day as an independent contractor is crucial. Otherwise. Shit is not going to happen.
Ede: Got you. Okay. Well, thank you for sharing that. Do you have any one last thought that you'd like to share with anyone that's looking for ways to get more things accomplished or to do more and to make more money or whatever it is?
Eddie: Yeah. Well, I think the only thing I would recommend is keep listening to good people. There are so many biographies and stories out there. Muhammad Ali comes to my mind. He said that he hated every day of training. He just hated it. He didn't like it, but he still did it because he wanted to be a champion for the rest of his life. And that kind of stuck with me because you don't have to love every day. You don't have to love like, oh, my gosh, I'm going to get up in the morning and work out. I'm going to go make my calls. It's not about that. It's like the kids, they don't get up in the morning, oh, I'm going to go to school. They're forced to. And no matter how they feel, they're forced to. And then in 10 12 years, they become a contributing member to the society. Imagine if we did that with our career. Like, damn. 7:00 A.m., we're going to have this class. 08:00 A.m., we're going to have this class 12:00 P.m. We're going to do homework. If we had that as an independent contractor, I think we can go a long way. And that's what I've done. I'm a super lazy guy. If it's not up to accountability, I would be sleeping right now. So that's what I would recommend. Listen to good people, good stories, and have accountability. Otherwise, you're not going to survive. Awesome.
Ede: Thank you, Eddie. And do you want to share what your goals are or what we can expect from your team this year?
Eddie: Yeah. So, my goals are I'm not too attached to the goals at this point. There was a point when I was struggling financially or whatever. My goal right now is basically I want to enjoy every single day. I'm enjoying talking to you. I want to enjoy talking to Rebecca. I just want to have fun. You know what I mean? So, the numbers are all that dandy. But at the end of the day, I don't care. Now, at this point, I don't care if I do 20 transactions or 200 transactions because at the end of the day, every single dollar we make, we're just going to leave it behind for our kids. So, I don't give a shit. Because if they're good kids, they are going to make their own money. If they're bad kids, no matter how much money If they're bad kids, no matter how much money So my goal right now is to have fun. But by just doing that, I mean, we're on track to close about 200 million plus this year or more. We did almost 200 last year. We are pending and closing 120,000,000 already. It's not even half the year yet. But like I said, I'm not attached to it. I'm not attached to it. At this space. We'll probably do 300 million. But I'm not attached. I don't care if it's 50 million. 100 million, 20 million. Like I said, I want to have a good day. I want to enjoy my life. That's important because success without fulfillment or happiness is the ultimate failure, according to Tony Robbins and I believe in that. So got to have fun, guys. Got to have fun.
Ede: Definitely agree. And I feel like having this miracle morning routine or this routine really helped me with that. Like finding a purpose.
Ede: Thank you for sharing that.
Eddie: Thank you so much. Yes, I appreciate it. And then I'm always here. If you guys want to reach out, you can look me up on social media. Ede, thank you for your time and have a day.
