Mon’s Mile: Pursuing passion through MicroClubs
It's not every day that you get to check an item off your bucket list. But for Lenoel, known as Mon to his colleagues, that day arrived in the form of an invitation from MicroSourcing to participate in the annual Yakult 10-Miler Run 2023.
Lenoel Montilla II, MicroSourcing employee
Running had always been a goal for Mon, but life, as it often does, had other plans. Just like the High School Musical song lyric said: “Whenever we try, somehow the plan is always rearranged”. A myriad of reasons, ranging from health issues to busy schedules, had always kept him from running. But when he saw the invite, it was his call to action. Mon decided to go for it.
In the spirit of preparation, Mon joined a hiking activity organized by MicroSourcing the weekend before the big day. Despite suffering a knee sprain that would have deterred many, Mon saw it as just another big block along the way. Back at his apartment, he dedicated himself to a week of stretching and stepping exercises, doing everything to get himself race-ready.
The big day
And so, in the wee hours of October 15, Sunday, Mon stood among 33 of his colleagues at Liwasang Ulalim, CCP Complex, all representing MicroSourcing, all ready to run. With the sound of the starting gun, the event began, where 14 associates took on the 16km challenge, another 14 on a 5km race, and a few others on the 10km and 3km routes.
This was all made possible by the MicroSourcing Sports Club, a platform designed to help go-getters like Mon be their 100% selves. In a show of support, MicroSourcing covered half of the event fee, making it easier for employees to get involved.
When asked about their whys, many cited reasons such as physical health, fitness, and the desire to lead a healthier lifestyle. Some joined for the sheer fun of it.

Hersh Masbad, a work-from-home (WFH) employee, said, “Meeting like-minded individuals are always enjoyable, and a fun run is something I have sincerely missed since the worldwide pandemic”.
Another WFH participant, Mirra Colleen Abaca, echoed this sentiment, saying, “By joining this activity, it has exposed me to different colleagues from MS.”
As the sun rose over the complex, people of all ages - from children to Gen X - were seen running, and even a few dogs, with their little paws, joined in the fun.
Upon crossing the finish line, hours after running and walking, Mon, with a smile in his face, said: "Na-prove ko sa sarili ko na kaya ko. (I proved to myself that I can do it.) I can surpass my limits”.
There's a MicroClub for you
This event is just one of the many opportunities beyond work offered by MicroSourcing through its MicroClubs. These clubs are avenues for employees to engage, connect, and express themselves.
There is a MicroClub for everyone here at MicroSourcing, whether they are a hybrid, onsite, or work-from-home employee, a dance enthusiast, a music fan, or just looking for a fun way to relax.
