Moving forwards can sometimes mean moving backwards

Moving forwards can sometimes mean moving backwards

Earlier this year I had to take several steps back, as obstacles which I wasn't expecting, and hadn't seen coming, suddenly got in the way. As you start the new week you may be thinking about the obstacles which are in your way.

As well as thinking about ways around or over or under them, I do hope you know that it's more than OK to walk back a little bit and find a path which doesn't have those obstacles on it.

A partial retreat, to give you time to work out another way is sometimes absolutely the right thing to do. And often banging your head against the same obstacle is the wrong thing. As well as thinking about ways around or over or under them, I do hope you know that it's more than OK to walk back a little bit and find a path which doesn't have those obstacles on it.

A partial retreat, to give you time to work out another way is sometimes absolutely the right thing to do. And often banging your head against the same obstacle is the wrongPride gets in our way more than it needs to. Our unwillingness to appear to be going backwards in front of all of our peers who, as it goes, are too busy paying attention to their own problems to pay that much attention to yours.

I've taken huge steps backwards this year, in order to find different routes which are actually much easier to traverse than the one I was taking.

And that's not failure, that's just sensible.

We've all got sat nav or waze to guide us around traffic jams and closed roads when we drive but we don't have that in real life. For all of the advice we can take we'll still find some roads we just can't drive through. And the most successful people I know were the first to say "sod this" and reverse up half a mile and find a clearer road.

As you start to think about starting the new week, don't be afraid to reverse back up when you need to. The rest of us won't notice, and even if we do we are going to support you and not criticise you.

I hope you're having a great networking week,

Stef

Thank you for sharing Stefan. I think this is an important message to hear, and to take in. The most important person is YOU, whether that's in your business or personal life. We all need to put more focus on what matters most, and if that means backing up a little, then that's what has to happen 🙏 x

Great thoughts and it's something I think a lot of us struggle with.

Well said Stefan
