My Apprenticeship Journey at Parker Technical Services
By Ella Lester, undertaking a Business Administration apprenticeship at Parker Technical Services - PAGE CLOSED , part of MARCH .
The Beginning
I started my apprenticeship at EJ Parker Technical Services - PAGE CLOSED just 2 weeks after completing my GCSE’s which was a huge step for me. Before starting my Apprenticeship, I had no office experience or HR knowledge. The only experience I had was working as a waitress and work experience at a hairdresser's and nursery…which was not for me! 🙈
I found my apprenticeship by attending an open day at Burton’s head office. It was helpful for me as it showed me insights about the business and allowed me to meet employees within the company. Everyone was so friendly which made me feel comfortable to ask questions. I came prepared with my CV which I gave to Liz Staley the Head of HR and was invited to an interview a couple of weeks later. I then found out I was successful and I was going to be offered an Apprenticeship. I never had to worry about whether I would hear back about receiving my Contract of Employment as I was always kept in the loop and reassured.
Once I started at Parker Technical Services it allowed me to come out of my shell and allowed me to be more confident with others. Being surrounded by new people and just leaving school I felt very intimidated at first however I started to realise how welcoming everyone was towards me. From being a girl who has just come out of school people being nice around me helped me feel like I fit into the company straight away.
Progression
Since starting, the rest of the Human Resources department has allowed me to progress within my college course (Business Administration). I am always given the time and support needed to complete tasks to a high standard. From the support I have been given, I am now ahead of my college work and ready to start preparing for my project and Endpoint assessment. Therefore, this allows me to finish my course much sooner. Freya Bullock is another HR Apprentice within the company. Once she started, I helped train her and we were able to work together and help each other progress within our college course. Me and Freya prepare monthly notice boards for each office within the organisation.
Recently, I have been going to the Musk Process Services - PAGE CLOSED office in Swadlincote as well as the Burton office. This is so people can ask me questions and I can meet new people and also help employees whilst I am over there. This is so employees within the Swadlincote office have a member of the HR team there available to ask questions to.
I have received support from all over the organisation since I started working here, especially from Georgia Egan-Gara who has taught me the basic and day-to-day HR knowledge I needed to help me when I first started, including helping me achieve all my day-to-day tasks. Wider members of the HR and Systems team have also helped me achieve my work to the best standard during my apprenticeship journey. At Parkers, I have received recognition in the form of a Dare to Care voucher for helping with training and my input to the IFS system.
Skills I have developed:

· Professionalism
· Employment law

My Aspirations
Once I have finished my apprenticeship, I would like to progress by starting my CIPD which will give me more understanding of HR and Employment Law. I would like to carry on working for EJ Parkers whilst developing in Human Resources to be able to achieve the highest standard and gain more knowledge within the company.
I am looking forward to having new opportunities and taking my qualifications to the next step.
