My best and worst LinkedIn posts in Jan '24 (with stats)
As I post every weekday on LinkedIn, I share every month the lessons and wins with metrics, and try to draw some conclusions.
My posts appeared 43,434 times in the last 28 days (this is only the personal profile, not pages). This is a 16,1% increase vs the previous period (which was the winter break, so usually slower anyway). I reached 10,000 followers in January.
I was also tagged more than 70 times in posts and comments, that is an even more metric to me.
On top of the above impressions, I had event signups, I sold London Business Society Annual Passes, Club500K memberships and 50 Habits of Successful Networkers books thanks to posting. I was contacted by venues who would like to host us and I was connected with people who we could do business with.
Over 6,000 impressions - the best post
The success of my son
Personal posts always work, and I rarely post about my family. But this was an exception and big news, my son getting an offer from the University of Oxford.
I tried to make it not pure bragging but thanking people who helped him and giving credit to those who didn't get an offer from where they wanted.
It earned me 6,823 impressions, 223 likes, 74 comments, and lots of love, and positive feedback. I have another son, so I'm pushing him to Oxford to have the same success in 3 years :) (Just kidding)
Over 3,000 impressions
Book launch
Reporting after the Book Launch event of 50 Habits of Successful Networkers earned me 3,033 impressions, 111 likes and 36 comments, and a lot of support, and love.
Again, it shows that connections are happy to share your success and there's no point in hiding these (and it's not bragging).
Happy New Year
The first post of the month (and the year!) was a personal one giving insights into what I do when not working, and how I start the year. I tried to make it a bit funny instead of the "I tell you how to make this year successful' - type of post.
It earned me 3,003 impressions, 101 likes, and 33 comments.
Over 2,000 impressions
I am not a maximalist
Posts about mental health, productivity, and common challenges shared by almost everybody always work well. I made this about 'not being a maximalist'. There were so many insightful comments adding more value to the post.
I had 2,380 impressions, 50 likes, and 19 valuable comments.
Event report on Women Connector
Posts reporting about an event with photos of the people attending and tagging them, always has a good reach. A wrap up of Women Connector brought me 2,023 impressions, 58 likes and 25 lovely comments. These post always result in more orders of the upcoming events.
Over 1,000 impressions
Most of my posts fall into the range of 1,500-1,800 impressions, a safe 15%-18% reach, which is very good compared to other social media channels.
Recommended by LinkedIn
Event reports work very well (photos of the event and tagging people).
The above two posts reached over 1,700 people, some attendees shared them.
Asking for tips
I experimented with a post, asking people for tips on certain activities (like how to drink more water, where to find non-exec director roles etc). I got very good recommendations, and almost 1,500 impressions, I expected more involvment from this type of post.
Know your priorities
This was the only post in the month without a photo, and this could have been a reason why it reached 'only' 1,327 people. I expected more as this was a post about knowing our priorities and taking care of people we love. Normally these posts result in higher activities.
Hot to sell on social media
A slider post on tips on pitching on social media. As always I had lower reach than with other posts: 1,257, 24 likes and 7 comments.
January events promo
This was a slider post showing all january events, it reached 1,062 people, and people registered for the events.
Under 1,000 impressions
Some of the promo posts reach under 1,000 people but I always have enquiries and signups from these (if they are entry products). Later I hear from people they have heard about the product/service I promoted.
What is the lifebelt you can offer to someone who is drowning?
This was knowledge share, on how to write cold emails. I expected much more from it, even if normally knowledge-based posts work less. I posted it a bit later than usual and there's no person o the photo - these could have been reasons of fewer impressions. 855 views, 20 likes and 10 comments, but I had the right audience who is interested in the topic.
Speaker announcement
Unfortunately posts with a banner work less than with genuine photos. This photo reached 730 people, I had 16 likes and 5 comments, even if I announced a high profile speaker.
Conclusion
As always, story-based posts, success stories, and mental health topics work very well. Genuine photos, photos with people and selfies help. Tagging people responsibly also works. Knowledge share and promos normally result in fewer impressions, but contribute to more sales and more business, which also matters.

10moI have an experiment going at the moment and I will share the results in a few months… but I have seen a massive difference in impression between paying to be a premium linkedin member and just an ordinary Joe.… I have clients who can get 8-10,000 impressions with 2,500 connections with only a handful of comments while we can respond quickly, have 60 plus comments and still only over 1,000 impressions.. Sometime we forget it's pay to play 🙈

10moIt drives me absolutely nuts to recognise that however well I write a post, it performs so much better when it is accompanied by a picture of me grinning like an idiot!
