My first podcast as a guest - couldn't be more (All) Personal
I wanted to share with you the best episode from All Personal Podcast. As a coincidence, I'm the episode's guest, which breaks the ice for me in the podcast universe. I've been editing and promoting podcasts for the past couple of years, but I've never actually been a guest on one... up until now. (Back home, I've been on many TV and radio shows, and also in Canada, I managed to get my face up on local TV for a short cover story where I was training in BJJ at Ryerson University).
Roxana (the All Personal Podcast host) is a consultant, trainer, speaker and coach who comes from the same country as I (hint: when you see a name ending in escu, it's safe to assume it's Romanian) and arrived in Canada around the same time as me. She has a series of courses on different "life skills" - I took the Emotional Intelligence for Game-Changing Leaders. I started seeing (positive) results as soon as I applied the techniques and mental frameworks learned from the course. "Emotional highjacking" is also a term I learned from here, which fits so many situations, and now I have a term for it.
All of her courses are available here.
This brings us to the timer you see below (if you don't, you might need to enable images/attachments within your email client). I've talked to Roxana, and to celebrate this special (the best, as I said) episode of her podcast, all the subscribers of the How About Some Marketing? newsletter will have a chance to win 3 courses (for free if it's not specific enough). So, if you're reading this email, meaning you're subscribed to the newsletter, then there's nothing for you to do. You will be automatically selected for the raffle.
The courses are:
- Emotional Intelligence for Game-Changing Leaders
- Feedback for High-Performance and Collaborative Teams
- Time & Project Management for Working from Anywhere
If your name is selected (randomly by a machine), I will send you a unique code you will use when purchasing the courses. This promo ends Sunday, March 7, 2021, around midnight, and I'll announce the winner the following week. If you think there's someone who can benefit from these courses, allow them to win by inviting them to subscribe to this newsletter here.
Invite them to subscribe anyway.
Back to the podcast episode. I enjoyed this conversation with Roxana; because that's what it is, a conversation between two friends with an unlimited worldwide audience. Isn't this fun? We talked about careers, journeys, how and why I did what I did (lol - sounds like I did something bad). We talked about marketing, Romania, and Canada.
We talked about the so-called "soft skills" and come up with different terms - anything is better than "soft" because there's nothing "soft" about them. I mentioned an article by Seth Godin where he calls them "real skills."
I mentioned how life sometimes throws stuff at us and we have to figure out how to deal with them - I made a reference to this John Wayne video. I also talked about how we can't do things alone, on our own, and that self-made man is quite misleading. It doesn't take away any credit you might have, but self-made is not completely accurate. I mention a video of Arnold Schwarzenegger (I copied/pasted his name from Google just to be sure) where he explains what self-made means better than I can.
We discussed how difficult it is wearing a mask (literally these days) and how the best way to be is yourself (sounds so dumb and simple; still we struggle). It's all about you and the others. That's why it's So/All Personal.
I believe I haven't actually shared the podcast episode link yet, so here it is:
On a side note, I find myself - (again) in this podcast episode - speaking Romanian using English words. I was recently a guest on a different show (not a podcast), and after a friend saw the video he told me something like: bro, stop speaking Romanian. I knew exactly what he meant. More on that and what theory I have at a later date. I just wanted to make this side-note now.
I'm really curious to know your thoughts on what "soft skills" are and if you have a better name for them.
Let me know.
