My 'Golden Rant' for what to ask when booking your next guest speaking spot so that it's a win win

My 'Golden Rant' for what to ask when booking your next guest speaking spot so that it's a win win

Welcome to the #29 Saturday edition of ‘The Content & Conversations Weekly.'

Tired of watching your competitors sign YOUR clients? Every Saturday, you’ll get actionable tips for stopping the 'theft' AND converting your LinkedIn and Facebook connections into paying clients.

If you're seeing this on Sunday on LinkedIn, get it FIRST on Saturday in your inbox by clicking here.

Happy Saturday!

And Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all who are celebrating it.

David and I will be joining friends on Sunday for our celebration and T-Day meal since they all had Portuguese classes on Thursday.

Nope, I'm not joining them right now because of timing and already agreed to obligations, including several speaking gigs.

Which is what I want to talk about today.

If you don't already know, I'm a HUGE fan of using speaking to expand your reach and audience quickly.

While also building credibility and authority.

But one thing I've also learned over the years is to make sure you protect yourself as a speaker.

Otherwise, it's very easy to get taken advantage of.

Even lose rights to your content.

Yep, if you agree to the wrong contract (or have no contract) people can claim your content as their own.

I explain more about this, plus dropped some of the questions you 'should' be asking before agreeing to do any form of speaking gig whether it's a:

  • Podcast
  • Summit
  • Guest training
  • Live event
  • Conference

...In a mini rant in my group “The Client Connect” on Friday - after getting blocked by an event host for asking questions.

Click here to watch the video.

BTW - this applies to both in person and virtual events.

I'm also thinking of creating a list of all the questions if there's enough interest.

If you want me to create a list of all the questions you 'should' be asking to make sure a speaking gig is a win win (plus protect your content) ...

Please VOTE by hitting the ❤️ interaction on this newsletter.

If I get 50 or more votes, I'll create that list.

P.S. A shout out to Royce Blake for calling my rant a 'Golden Rant.'

Thank you, Royce. I couldn't resist using it for the subject line.

Just in case you missed it, I posted the top 7 excuses I'm given by clients about why they don't get their commenting done on social media.

Are any of these yours?

Check out the full post on LinkedIn and see what it's costing you.

Do you want a checklist of the questions you should ask to make sure your speaking gig is a win win?

If I get at least 50 heart interactions, I will create this checklist for you.

P.S. Market research to make sure there's demand (the best way to create lead magnets that people WANT)!!!

Hmmm...I'm not sure it is possible to effectively protect anything IP-wise...unless you have some pet lawyers

Here, here, Heidi Medina! Knowing what’s gonna happen with the content is critical. And unfortunately, I’ve seen too many of these calls for guests that give absolutely no information. Honestly, it’s so easy to do. You could just put something together and copy and paste it…and yet it’s just crickets. Do you think people avoid doing that because it’s a scam? Or maybe they’re just embarrassed?

I had never thought about this prior to reading your post Heidi Medina. Good questions to ask and clarify though
