My key learnings from “Restoring the Soul of Business” by Rishad Tobaccowala

My key learnings from “Restoring the Soul of Business” by Rishad Tobaccowala

The lockdown last year and right now has been very depressing. But there are few positive sides to this. I discovered and had an opportunity to come across few personalities whom now I consider my mentors and have decided to follow them rigorously particular to get inspired for my work profession as I admired their thinking and achievement in their respective fields. One such person who has been my inspiration after attending few of his speaking sessions, following his regular write-ups and a book now is Rishad Tobaccowala. I have been telling my wife, hope my thinking get evolves in the similar line with the changing time. I just completed reading his book, “Restoring the Soul of Business” and I have been repeatedly reading few chapters as it has lots of relevance to my working life. I have tried my best to summarized my key learnings from this book. Hope these are helpful tips.

·     Human judgement and intuition are essential to identify data’s true meaning.

·     Success in the future will required integrating the story and the spreadsheet. The best business will find the ways to marry the math and the magic, digital, data driven landscape with the analog, carbon-based, feeling souls.

·     In the screen-based world, we should be aware of their ability to colonize both our time and minds making it more important to have human communications.

·     We spend a significant part of our lives at work, meaning is found in combination of growing new skills, finding work that resonates with oneself and establishing human relationship.

·     Change is very difficult for most people. Successful companies ensure they communicate why the change is necessary.

·     The most successful people find their niche, their voice and their stories which makes them credible.

·     More meetings create more opportunities for productive relationships. But, you should learn to listen, interact, feel, transform with the discussion.

·     Regardless of how senior you are in the hierarchy, we all need to keep on growing and creating relevance to the changing times.

·     We all worked for good and bad bosses, and each of us has in us the traits of being a good or bad leader. Becoming a good leader is a process that require continuous learning from both story and spreadsheet.

·     To rephrase John F. Kennedy, ask not what your company can do for you, but what you can do for your company. Individual responsibility for relevant skill development to the changing time is a key to future success not just for the organization but also for your own self because your organization cannot take away your learnings or relationship once you decide to discontinue your service with them.
