Never Compromise on Health: Always Ask Questions!
We questioned everything and everyone, including Dad's doctors and specialists, because we had no idea.

Never Compromise on Health: Always Ask Questions!

Questions can drive us crazy, especially when they're repeated over and over. As I get older (I'm 42 this week :-), I find myself asking the kinds of questions my parents always asked, the kinds of questions I used to think were a bit daft or irrelevant, but which have somehow become much more important to me in the short space between my twenties and my forties. Scary.

Dad never stopped asking questions, all the time we were fixing him. Whilst frustrating, our subsequent projects at Fixing Dad show us there has never been a more important time for humans to ask questions, especially when it comes to health. Many people we work with in our films have simply accepted the health information they've received without fully understanding it, consumed medications without knowing what job they do or how long they'll be taking them for, often absorbing terrifyingly bleak health predictions with massive life implications, bowing down to a dismal prognosis with no exploration of any potential way out.

This is common. Information is everywhere; online, agressively opinionated, on our phones, tablets, home devices, bombarding our senses every minute but - and this is the important bit - it's not all good information.

When it comes to our health, the passive acceptance of poor information (or poor delivery of information) - even from expert sources - can be damaging, even dangerous. From the belligerent doctor's advice and a flippant diagnosis, to an authoritarian article claiming to represent an entire health demographic, from outdated government advice to the multiple products attached to 'health and wellness', from age old health mantras about gluttony and laziness to polarised dietary advice, it's important that patients, as consumers, question it all and make it their business to do so.

So don't compromise. Resist. Stay strong and question everything. Your health might just depend on it.
