Billionaire Boom

It’s a good time to be a billionaire. The ranks of the “three-comma club” have swelled to a record 2,781 people, according to Forbes’ 2024 World’s Billionaires List, with two-thirds having seen their fortunes grow in the past year alongside surging markets. An “AI gold rush” accounts for more than a dozen of the 265 entrants to the billionaire class — a list that includes French shoe designer Christian Louboutin, pop star Taylor Swift and Shein’s three co-founders. Find out more about the list here. ✏️ Melissa Cantor

Guilt-tipping

Most Americans think tipping has gotten out of control, based on a recent Wallethub survey, and now they're starting to buck being guilt-tripped into adding a gratuity seemingly everywhere, CNBC reports. Prompts with options to add from 15% to 35% have proliferated on apps and at points of sale, giving rise to so-called "guilt tipping." Read more on the trend here. ✏️ Cate Chapman

Topics on the Rise

We’re all experts in something and we all have knowledge and experiences to share. Lean into exchanging information with like minds on the platform around a different topic each week.

This week's topic: The right to disconnect

California may soon pioneer a groundbreaking protection for U.S. employees tired of after-hours work calls and emails. Assembly Bill 2751 proposes a "right to disconnect" for employees, allowing them to ignore non-emergency work communications outside of working hours. The bill aligns with similar laws in 13 other countries and would establish written agreements for non-working hours. Employers failing to comply could face fines, pending complaints filed with the California Labor Commissioner.

Comment below: What are the pros and cons of right to disconnect policies, for employers and/or employees?

What are some best practices for engaging in the comments?

One of the biggest pieces of advice I offer regarding building a personal brand on LinkedIn is to stay engaged in the comments! Whether it’s on your own posts or actively sharing your perspective on posts from people you know or follow. Leaving comments on others’ posts is a great way to showcase your unique POV while gaining visibility with others who are looking to connect with like minded voices.

On the other hand, staying engaged within your own comment section is also a great way to foster relationships and increase engagement. When people leave comments on your posts, it’s a great idea to keep the conversation going by asking follow up questions or providing feedback to the commenter.

As of last week, industrial conglomerate General Electric is officially three separate companies: GE Aerospace, GE Vernova and GE HealthCare.

Why the split? The CEOs of the three publicly traded companies weighed in exclusively on LinkedIn last week to add context on the historic event. Read the personal perspectives from Larry Culp, Scott Strazik and Peter Arduini.

People acting like they’re slaves. You have the right to disconnect already. You have the right to quit, also.
