DAY TWO
Psalm 54:1-7 (ASV) Prayer for defense against enemies. Save me, O God, by thy name, And judge me in thy might. Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers have revolted against me, and violent men have sought after my soul: They have not set God before them. Selah. Behold, God is my helper: The Lord is of them that uphold my soul. He will requite the evil unto mine enemies: Destroy thou them in thy truth. With a freewill offering will I sacrifice unto thee: I will give thanks unto thy name, O Jehovah, for it is good. For he hath delivered me out of all trouble; And mine eye hath seen my desire upon mine enemies.
In this Psalm David’s own countrymen betrayed him these were malicious blood thirsty men whose great desire was to extinguish a person’s life and hurt his very soul. His enemies “did not set God before them” which means, concepts such as love, care, justice, and protection were not part of their vocabulary or lifestyle. Love, purity, and wholeness were mocked and destroyed on purpose and the enemy knows that nothing hurts worse than betrayal by a family member or a deep friendship. In the garden of Gethsemane Jesus was betrayed by a kiss (Lk. 22:47-48). This is significant to us because a form of sweetness was used as Jesus’ death sentence. Abuse, shock, and trauma are not new. One of the most important things that helped me heal was hearing Jesus in the spirit, He never approved of what happened to me. This was a game-changer because unknowingly I felt that God's silence meant His approval of my hurts. My family through their own self will chose to be apart from God. Jesus said to me, “If I wasn’t there you would have died. This was not my plan for you. I have preserved you so that you can live out my plan.” In my heart this was a paradigm switch.
The Psalmist said here that “God is my helper.” What does that mean? The Helper is the Holy Spirit the Great Comforter (Jn. 14:16). We must ASK for Him and remember we are in the presence of God every day. God can uphold a person’s soul, keep us from exhaustion, and sinking from our burdens. We all need that every day. Prior to deliverance I had a set way of surviving and functioning to perform my tasks in life. When I started the healing process seven years ago, my “survival tools” began to fail, and I had to take God into every area of my life in order to be a mother, friend, and co-worker. It was a slow and manageable process when you just live it five minutes at a time or one task at a time.
In the last part it said, “God will deliver us” when we offer ourselves up to Him as a sacrifice. That is surrender. Surrender to the idea that my best thinking cannot fix this issue only God. That is why we have deliverance minister’s whose only wish is to be God’s vessel for healing. This kind of surrender brings relief. Relief that we are not alone facing these memories and that it’s God’s will for us to be healed and set free. The “desire” in the last verse means the forced retreat of the enemies’ attack against us. We must remember to put on the Armor of God (Eph.6:11-18) and the enemy will flee that is a promise for us.
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
I thank you that you are still on your throne and that you care for me. I thank you that all I need is to submit to you Lord today. I give you my cares so that I may receive your peace and relief. The enemy came to kill, steal, and destroy but you came to give us the abundant life (Jn. 10:10). I have not felt the abundant life yet Lord, but now that I surrender, I look forward to embracing it. Thank you for removing my fear, humiliation, and hurts today. Be with me at work, home and where every you lead me to go today. Amen.
