Newsletter #13: CRAFTING A COMPELLING VISION: Enhancing Team Inspiration and Clarity

“𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑠𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛 𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑠𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑛𝑜 𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛.” – 𝐻𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑛 𝐾𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑟

A) "1 PROBLEM":

Employees often lack inspiration and alignment due to missing or ineffective vision. A compelling vision should excite team members and provide a clear direction, aligning individual activities with a larger goal. Unfortunately, many teams either lack a vision altogether or have one that is merely a management slogan, disconnected from the team’s daily work and decision-making. Without integration into the vision and an understanding of their contribution, employees experience low motivation and engagement.

🛑❗🛑

B) "1 INSIGHT":

Clarity is essential to prevent wrong decisions, uncertainty, and disorientation. Clearly defining the direction and providing a comprehensive overview helps teams understand the project’s trajectory. Transparent communication of phases and detailed planning are crucial especially when managing multiple tasks. A guiding vision serves as a compass, while detailed planning acts as a map. Backward planning, where steps are planned in reverse from the end goal, ensures that each action builds on the previous one, bringing the team closer to its objective.

C) "1 CALL TO ACTION":

This week, let us evaluate two aspects: First, ensure all team members understand the vision, feel inspired to use it for their decisions, and know how their contributions advance the vision. Second, assess if the vision meets these criteria:

·        Future-oriented

·        Value-based

·        Realistic - but expandable

·        Short and easy to remember

·        Emotional & resonant

·        Relevant
