Newsletter July 2024
Dear friends and supporters,
As we advance into 2024, data collection and management remain critical, particularly concerning privacy and security. Despite the rise of AI and large language models, the need for data to feed these analyses in the humanitarian sector cannot be overstated. This capability has transformed our operations, enabling more precise and impactful interventions. Yet, with this great power comes great responsibility.
Effective data management is crucial for understanding needs, allocating resources efficiently, and measuring the impact of our programs. Advanced tools and technologies give us deeper insights and help us make informed decisions. One project we’re particularly proud of this quarter is our work with Helen Keller International on the Power BI Setup & Training project. This initiative aims to enhance their Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) program through better data management. By developing tailored Power BI solutions and providing comprehensive training, we're helping their teams not only use data more effectively but also maintain stringent data privacy and security standards.
At Relief Applications, we are committed to ensuring that the data we handle is protected to the highest standards, complying with global regulations like the GDPR General Data Protection Regulation . From the moment we start collecting data to the final stages of analysis, protecting personal information is our top priority. This commitment builds trust with the communities we serve and enhances the credibility and effectiveness of our efforts.
Thank you for your support and stay tuned as we continue to support our partners in navigating the complexities of data management, we invite you to join us in upholding the highest standards of privacy and security. Together, we can harness the power of data to drive positive change while safeguarding the rights and dignity of individuals.
Warm regards,

Extension of ILO and ITUC MRA Bot Project - [ONGOING PROJECT]
Relief Applications is thrilled to extend our project with the International Labour Organization and International Trade Union Confederation - ITUC , upgrading the MRa Bot into an AI-powered conversational chatbot for migrant workers available on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Using a Large Language Model (LLM), the bot provides informative content based on migrant workers’ country of destination, handles mixed languages, and maintains natural dialog context. Initially released in English but available in seven other languages with reviewed content, this chatbot aims to provide migrant workers with reliable and verified information regarding their labor rights, bridging the information gap threatening their safety and access to decent working conditions. Stay tuned for updates on this innovative project.
