Is Nigeria truly independent?

Happy Independence Day to fellow Nigerians. As I wish us all good on this day, there is something heavy on my heart that I can't get away from. The question is, are we truly independent?

Nigeria at 57, what is our achievements? We have gone through a series of bad leaders, the population can't stand each other, due to lack of unity and selfishness. We're a country of envy and strife. Our mindset is completely diluted and polluted. We are a bunch of people who will easily choose something from abroad instead of appreciating what was locally made. Our economy is still being controlled by our colonial masters, because they dictate how much we should sell our own resources by making us devalue our currency, due to all the loans we have borrowed from them which inadvertently makes them hold us to ransom so they can buy from us cheaply. We are a country where we respect a foreigner with light skin over our own, even when our own people are more qualified than the foreigner. We are country that prays so much, yet spiritually in bondage due to our inability to plan and have a foresight for the future, we're always looking for short cuts or trying to undercut each other. We are a country that lacks dignity and respect for one another. We wish each other dead because of a promotion at a job, or to inherit a family’s property that does not belong to us. Our politicians travel around the world, yet they can't implement good infrastructure in their own back yard.

It’s about time we take ownership and responsibility for our country. Nobody can do this for us, stop shifting the blame, every individual should look at themselves in the mirror and ask this question? Am I being truthful and honest in whatever I do daily? Am I a person of integrity and honour? If you say yes, let it reflect in your circle influence. If you say no, then it’s not too late to change. Don’t forget that our society reflects the people who live in it. That is why we are here as a nation. Our mindset and attitude needs to be free for us to be independent as a nation.

Happy Independence day fellow Nigerians....God bless Nigeria.
