NLP – Advanced Communication Skills for Business and Coaching

Hello and welcome back!

I'm Fiona Campbell, and I'm glad to have you with us again for another part of our series. Today, we're going to ask a simple yet profound question: how do your values influence your daily life?

Have you ever stopped to think about what drives you to make the choices you do? The things that sit well with you and those that don't quite fit? Whether it's about leaving a job that wasn't right for you, feeling out of place with certain people, or enjoying your work and getting on well with people – it's all down to your values.

Our values are the deep-seated beliefs that guide our way in life.

As you join me in this edition, we'll explore the power of values and discover just how much they steer our interactions, choices, and overall happiness. Get ready to see how aligning with your true values can transform the way you live and work.

How Your Values Drive You

Have you considered how your values impact on everything you do?

  • Think about the jobs that you may have left or are unhappy in
  • The people you socialise with who make you feel uncomfortable.
  • The people you work with that make you miserable.
  • Or think about the company you love working for.
  • The relationship that just seem natural and right.
  • The people that energise and motivate you.

What have all these things have in common?

The first examples are when you are with people who don’t match your values.

The second examples are when you are with people who do match your values.

What Are Values?

Values are basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate attitudes or actions.

They help us to determine what is important to us.

Values describe the personal qualities we choose to embody to guide our actions:

  • The sort of person we want to be.
  • The way we treat ourselves and others.
  • How we interact with the world around us.

Types of Values

Personal values are personal beliefs about right and wrong and what may or may not be considered moral.

Family values are passed down through generations and shape who we are from an early age.

Cultural values are values accepted by religions or societies and reflect what is important in each context.

Company values are the standards that guide the way you do business. They sum up what your business stands for, influences the organisational culture, and drives how and why you do things.
