Unveiling Vessel Activity Near the Strait of Malacca
The Strait of Malacca and its surrounding waters play a pivotal role in global trade, facilitating the transit of nearly 90,000 vessels annually. However, this critical maritime route also faces challenges from high-risk activity, including vessels obscuring their movements. Monitoring this congested and geopolitically sensitive region requires advanced technology to overcome gaps in traditional domain awareness methods.
HawkEye 360 recently analyzed vessel activity near the Strait of Malacca and uncovered ship-to-ship transfer operations between two vessels, Itagua and Shanaye Queen. Using RF data analytics and vessel identification technology, our analysts were able to detect these vessels despite their use of tactics like AIS spoofing to mask their movements.
Key Findings:
HawkEye 360’s RF analytics and satellite imagery provide an innovative solution to maritime security challenges, offering new ways to monitor vessel activity in high-risk areas.
